POSITION INFORMATION
Baker School District is currently seeking a candidate for a Temporary Position as a 1.0 FTE Physical Education / Fine Arts Teacher at Baker Early Learning Center beginning the 2026-2027 school year. Position is 1.0 FTE. This benefited position will begin on August 13, 2026; Insurance to begin September 2026. Position will end on June 10, 2027.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for designing and implementing an engaging, age-appropriate kinesthetic curriculum that introduces young learners to the foundations of movement, health, and wellness. The role focuses on developing fundamental gross motor skills, spatial awareness, and social-emotional growth (sharing, teamwork, and perseverance) in a safe, play-based, and inclusive environment. The Fine Arts Teacher is responsible for developing a foundational interest and ability in creative expression for young learners. The educator will provide a dynamic blend of visual arts, music, movement, and dramatic play. The primary focus is to foster cognitive, emotional, and motor skill development while encouraging self-expression, aesthetic understanding, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts in a safe and inclusive environment.
POSITION EXPECTATIONS
Plans a program of study designed to meet District physical education/fine arts goals that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students. Plans and supervises programs in developmental physical education/fine arts. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups as assigned. Demonstrate motivation and enthusiasm with a genuine passion for teaching young learners. Demonstrate the ability to create a child-centered classroom. Facilitates children's physical, cognitive and social and emotional learning through lessons designed to sequentially develop skills appropriate to their ability and confidence levels. Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance utilizing curriculum and other appropriate learning activities. Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement. Develops engaging and effective lesson plans and supplementary materials. Provides ongoing formative feedback to students. Demonstrates a growth mindset individually and supports this development with all students. Communicates in developmentally appropriate ways through a humane, sensitive approach that clearly communicate that every child, regardless of ability, can succeed and will benefit from a physically active, healthy lifestyle. Implements and supports school-wide programs to include PBIS, Growth Mindset, etc. Collaborates with school staff in providing ideas and support to increase health and wellness, movement and activity within the classroom. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education/fine arts areas that supports and aligns with the school-wide PBIS Framework. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and playground areas to ensure the overall safety of students. Evaluates fitness and social and emotional growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records as necessary. Maintains control of storage, Physical Education equipment, recess equipment, school property and fine arts materials. Evaluates each student's growth in physical skills and knowledge and collaborates with center staff to share with parents. Actively supports and builds a strong positive culture and learning environment. Work cooperatively and collaboratively with team members, parents, community members, and partners to improve the instructional program and student success. Effectively use technology to support effective instruction and student learning. Communicates with parents and team members on student progress. Supervises students in and out of the classroom. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Maintain confidentiality. Complies with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations. Fulfill all State and District requirements regarding work samples and assessments. Responsible for ensuring appropriate cleaning and disposal of body fluids as directed. PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires the candidate to hold, or be eligible to hold an Oregon Teaching License with the proper endorsement.

CONTRACT INFORMATION
The annual certified salary schedule is $62,736 - $90,467 based upon the 2026-2027 Certified Salary Schedule for 1.0 FTE for employees with an unrestricted teaching license ($47,053 annual salary for employees with an Emergency/Restricted Teaching License). Baker School District allows all licensed teaching experience years within the U.S. (substitute years not included) and education to be used in placing the teacher on the salary schedule. Currently, teacher contracts are approximately 175 days with a four-day work week. Certified staff report for approximately one Friday per month for meetings and PD activities.
