06/08/2026 Assigned to perform and assume responsibility for tasks under the general supervision of a certified physical education teacher or teaching team with high degree of independent judgment utilized, releasing the teacher from routine tasks; experience in working with at-risk students preferred. Interact with immediate supervisor, teachers and parents. This person will also perform other appropriate duties as assigned. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as, district policies procedures and regulations. Essential Functions Provide assistance to the teacher in selecting, planning, organizing and evaluating instructional materials to develop a balanced health-physical education curriculum. Participate actively in all staff development training and implement learned strategies into the curriculum. Implement the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Health-Physical Education into the daily curriculum. Assist in working with individual students and with small groups and whole class, as needed. Reinforce skills and units of instruction that haven been taught by the teacher. Assist with testing and scoring objective measurement instruments. Work with targeted at-risk students based on needs on a one-to-one basis. Incorporate discipline strategies and concentrate on social skills development on a daily basis. Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job. Virtual and Online Duties (additional as assigned) Assist in the creation and actively participate in a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing during regular school business hours to confer with district stakeholders as needed. Other Responsibilities Participate in professional development activities as required by the district. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals. Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma/GED or higher; forty eight (48) hours from an accredited college or university; have experience working with students and parents. Must possess or be eligible to obtain a paraprofessional certificate issued by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) AND must obtain a national criminal background check through the SBEC website within 30 days of hire. Must be able to communicate, listen, read, write, and comprehend the English language sufficiently to use it easily and readily in daily communication. Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate with district employees, parents and students. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors Must be able to assist in the lifting/ carrying of students with disabilities in excess of 50 to 175 lbs. depending on age level, pushing/pulling wheelchair/walker, personal hygiene, etc. Must possess ability, skill, patience and understanding to work with students who have disabilities. Requires some bending, reaching, standing, kneeling, squatting. Must be able to acquire certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Heimlich maneuver, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI). Must be familiar with/able to use Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy (OT/PT) apparatus. Subject to the district's drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation.
