Job Description

This position is a non-tenure-track, full time instructor and lab support position in Physics. Will teach a two-semester sequence of Physics Laboratory and lecture demonstration support for other courses. In addition, this position includes performing and/or coordinating equipment repairs.
Teaching Support:
Instructional support of students in Physics lab sciences. The teaching responsibility will be 2-3 sections (dependent on student demand) of Physics I or II laboratory each semester. This includes assisting in planning, preparation, and instruction of experiments; lab demonstrations and set up; and training and supervision of student assistants. This also includes helping to design and select experiments to perform and to test as well as develop and modify experiments for course inclusion. Coordinates the faculty to purchase supplies and equipment and inventory management of these items. Participates in course design, supervises students during the lab, performs lab report/notebook evaluations, and writes the final narrative evaluations for students. Maintain equipment in good working order: Performs repairs and maintenance on laboratory equipment; develops a schedule for preventative maintenance on small equipment. Must be able to read and follow electronic schematic for repairs and troubleshooting instrument problems. Assists in minor maintenance of computers such as replacement of connectors and batteries as well as minor maintenance on printers; liaison with IT to upgrade software as needed. Assist in maintenance and repair of major equipment including NMR, X-ray diffractometer, and similar items. The person may act as the liaison between technical support and faculty. May also initiate repair requests on campus. Assist students in use of computers in support of laboratories including some assistance with testing equipment interfacing with computers. Supports faculty members in Physics in course instruction by giving demonstrations on use of lab equipment. Perform allied duties as requested by faculty or Division Chair to coordinate support and safety activities with other support staff. Coordinate with Environmental Health and Safety for student training and with other Associate in Natural Sciences for repairs and maintenance of safety showers and eyewashes. Other duties as assigned Minimum qualifications are a M.S. degree in Physics or a related field 3 or more years of professional experience is desired. The preferred qualification is a Ph.D. in Physics or a related field.
