Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit The College of Arts & Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro invites applications for a 9-month professional track Lecturer in Physics to begin on August 1, 2026. The position will have an initial one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal. Position Summary The faculty member will teach introductory Physics courses for Biology, Chemistry, and Kinesiology majors, along with students in the postbaccalaureate program. They may also teach introductory Astronomy courses that are part of the MAC (general education) curriculum. The teaching load will be 8 units per academic year; a unit is considered to be a lecture or a lab section. These courses may be face to face or online/asynchronous. Teaching responsibilities include preparing and delivering course materials, developing and administering appropriate assessments, evaluating student learning outcomes, preparing and grading assignments, and assigning final course grades. The position also includes participation in educational initiatives and scholarly activities that enhance curricular offerings. This may involve supporting existing basic or applied research efforts, assisting in the pursuit of external funding opportunities, and providing opportunities for student research, internships, or other experiential learning. Scholarly activities are expected to involve peer review, professional recognition, and/or dissemination within the discipline. In addition, the faculty member will contribute to shared governance within the college and university. Service responsibilities include engaging with the local community, supporting the service needs of relevant professional organizations, and providing academic advising to students. Minimum Qualifications Candidates for this position must have at least a Master's degree in Physics or related field.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications include:
PhD in Physics, Astrophysics, or related fields. Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in university level physics.
