Education Description Description Brazosport College, a two-time Top 1 O finalist for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence and an Achieving the Dream Leader College, seeks a dynamic, student-centered, and innovative individual to join the Government faculty within the Division of Social Sciences, Education, and Law Enforcement Academy. This full-time, tenure-track faculty position will support instruction in freshman and sophomore-level Government courses, including
GOVT 2305
- Federal Government and
GOVT 2306
- Texas Government. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to community college teaching, student success, academic rigor, civic learning, and effective instruction across a variety of student populations and course modalities. This position will report to the Division Chair for Social Sciences, Education, and Law Enforcement Academy. Responsibilities Include Preparing curriculum, classroom instruction, assignments, and assessments for Government courses using a variety of traditional, active learning, and innovative teaching methods. - Federal Government and
GOVT 2306
- Texas Government, as well as other freshman and sophomore-level Government or Social Sciences courses as assigned. Teaching courses in multiple instructional formats, including face-to-face, blended, hybrid, online, dual credit, and other alternative delivery formats as needed. Teaching on campus and, when assigned, at offsite locations, including local high schools and dual credit partner sites. Supporting student success through effective instruction, regular communication, timely feedback, academic support, and appropriate student advisement. Participating in curriculum development, course redesign, assessment of student learning outcomes, and continuous improvement efforts within the Government program and Division. Collaborating with Government faculty, division leadership, advising, dual credit partners, and student support areas to strengthen persistence, completion, civic learning, and transfer readiness for Government students. Maintaining scheduled office hours and campus presence in accordance with college expectations. Assisting in the development, review, and improvement of common course materials, LMS course shells (Brights pace Desire2Learn), shared assessments, and instructional resources as appropriate. Participating in departmental, divisional, and institutional planning, assessment, and professional development activities. Serving on various assigned college committees. Performing other faculty duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Government, or a master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Government. Degrees may focus on Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Global Affairs, or a JD with specialization in Constitutional Law or Legal Systems; Demonstrated ability to teach freshman and sophomore-level Government courses effectively, including Federal Government and Texas Government; Interest in alternative instructional delivery methods, including online, hybrid, blended, and dual credit instruction; Excellent written and oral communication skills; Commitment to student success, academic quality, and continuous instructional improvement; Demonstrated ability to work effectively with culturally diverse populations; Other qualities, experiences, and skills that enhance one's value to the institution; Exceptional employment or educational qualifications may be given special consideration. This position is 100% on site-Presence Desirable Qualifications Community college teaching experience; Experience teaching Federal Government and/or Texas Government; Experience teaching courses related to the U.S. Constitution, Texas Constitution, federalism, political institutions, elections, public policy, civil liberties, civil rights, or Texas political culture; Experience teaching dual credit students or working with high school partners; Experience with on line, hybrid, blended, or other technology-enhanced instructional formats; Experience using Desire2Learn Brightspace or another learning management system; Experience developing common course materials, shared assessments, course templates, or coordinated instructional resources; Knowledge of civic learning outcomes, transfer pathways, dual credit expectations, and student success strategies in Government or the Social Sciences; Demonstrated use of active learning, applied learning, or other evidence-informed instructional practices; Experience participating in assessment of student learning outcomes and using results to improve instruction; Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, advising, testing, and student support areas; Commitment to the mission of the comprehensive community college.
