The position requires an understanding of all aspects of operating a small performing arts center. This position is responsible for the daily operations of a performing arts center, including computerized lighting and sound design and implementation; set design and construction; safety precautions and procedures; planning for improvements; and coordinating all necessary maintenance. At times, this position also requires working with the Technology Department staff and assisting the Theatre Manager and Technical Director of Benjamin Hall, a full-scale theatre. Essential Functions Directs all technical planning and collaborates with Benjamin staff, administrators, teachers, and students who may be involved in program events or productions Manages theatre; purchases equipment, including lighting, sound, video, and rigging equipment; arranges for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performs preventative maintenance on equipment Plan forthcoming events, which include applying knowledge of audiences; ensure a balance between different types of productions; liaison with productions and events to plan the programming and scheduling of each event and performance Direct point of contact for lighting, audio, and visual elements of all productions or events in the Barker Center. Directs all technical rehearsals and performances. Manage and direct technical use for outside rental of the theatre Provides and coordinates training for house and stage staff (internal and external), Benjamin employees, students, volunteers, or hired personnel for special functions Liaison with School administrators, Performing Arts Chair, faculty, parents, and school staff Provides guidance with the planning of the operating budget for the Barker Performing Arts Center; maintains inventory and other specialized supplies; makes recommendations to theatre leadership regarding capital purchases of theatrical and technical equipment Network with other theatre managers, technical directors, and production managers in order to stay current with development in technical theatre and/or theatre management; attend conferences that promote and instruct on the newest technology in the theatrical field Operate, maintain, and safeguard the technical assets of the theatre, supervise the use of lighting, sound, video, communications equipment, and the use and maintenance of stage facilities Design, set up, maintain, and operate lighting and sound systems for theatre, dance, music, and other productions, projects, and events; assist faculty and guest designers and artists with technical matters Oversee set and stage construction and management Orient facility renters and visiting productions to safety, technical characteristics, and other areas of facility operations; facilitate the use of the technical equipment by School faculty or staff and others engaged in renting or using the facility Maintain the safety of equipment and personnel Attend and assist in all technical rehearsals, supervise and assist in the technical aspects of the mounting of a show, program, or event Provide assistance for school events hosted outside of the Barker Performing Arts Center Provides assistance to the Technology Department's helpdesk, providing technical support and training to faculty and staff Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities:

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree preferred or 5 years of Technical Theatre or professional audio/video production experience
Physical and Work Requirements:
Prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer Ability to safely move and operate theater equipment Ability to climb ladders to perform maintenance and installation work required of a theater, and use appropriate tools Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds Ability to work in excess of 8 hours a day, as well as evening and weekend hours as necessary for events and projects Travel required for meetings, events, professional development, and to assist with productions Reasonable accommodations will be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
