Trinity Day School is seeking an experienced and committed Director to lead our well-established early childhood education program serving children ages 6 weeks through 5 years old. Working with our Board of Directors and a team of eight teachers, the Director oversees all aspects of daily operation, including regulatory compliance with the State of Maine, staff development, financial stewardship, and cultivating strong relationships with families. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Operations
- Serve as the primary point of communication between Trinity Day School, Trinity Episcopal Church, families, and the community.
- Ensure compliance with all State of Maine child care licensing requirements.
- Maintain accurate child and staff records.
- Oversee staffing schedules to maintain required ratios and support program needs.
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors to ensure the center operates effectively.
- Prepare and present monthly reports to the Board.
- Maintain and update center policies, procedures, and operational manuals.
- Promote continuous quality improvement through Quality for ME and accreditation initiatives.
- Manage facility and safety oversight, such as health inspections, fire drills, emergency preparedness planning, and maintenance. Staff Development & Program Management
- Recruit, hire, supervise, evaluate, and support teaching staff.
- Plan and facilitate staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
- Conduct classroom observations and annual employee evaluations.
- Foster positive relationships, engagement,and collaboration among staff members.
- Support curriculum implementation aligned with Maine Early Childhood Learning Guidelines.
- Ensure staff maintain required certifications and training. Family & Community Engagement
- Welcome and orient new families.
- Maintain open communication with families regarding center policies, child development, and program activities.
- Coordinate parent-teacher conferences and family engagement events.

- Manage communications through Brightwheel. Enrollment & Financial Oversight
- Manage enrollment, waitlists, tours, and recruitment of prospective families.
- Monitor program budgets and expenditures in collaboration with the Board Treasurer and accounting professionals.
- Oversee tuition collection, payroll processes, and employee benefits administration.
- Manage grant writing and fundraising efforts in collaboration with the Board.
- Manage subsidy programs as applicable. Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience in early childhood education and/or childcare leadership.
- Meet all current State of Maine qualifications for Child Care Center Director.
- Thorough knowledge of Maine Licensing Rules for Child Care Facilities.
- Familiarity with Maine Early Childhood Learning Guidelines and Infant & Toddler Learning Guidelines.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience supervising staff and managing program operations.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain certification within three months from start date.
- Knowledge of labor laws, OSHA requirements, and child development best practices.
- Provide a letter of eligibility.
- This role is expected to be present on-site in Portland, Maine Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb stairs throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
