What they do

A Preschool or Childcare Director manages and directs programs for very young children. Supervises child care workers and pre-school teachers. Proposes policies, program fees and budgets for approval by a program board or administrative agency or implements policies of a national organization. Meets with parents and staff to discuss the development, learning and behavior of children in the program or center. Orders supplies and monitors maintenance and cleaning at a facility. Ensures that the program or center meets state and federal guidelines.

Job Description

As the Youth Development Center Director, you'll play a vital role in shaping high-quality programming and building strong relationships with children, families, staff, and school partners.
Your responsibilities will include:
Designing, planning, and implementing engaging, age-appropriate developmental programs Overseeing day-to-day operations of the child care center Supervising and mentoring on-site staff Creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for school-age children Building strong relationships with children and families and serving as a key point of communication Collaborating with school officials and YMCA leadership Ensuring compliance with Virginia DOE licensing requirements and YMCA quality standards Managing site safety, equipment, and facilities Attending and leading required child care trainings Supporting program administration, budgeting, and staffing needs
Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have:
Experience supervising staff and supporting program operations Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Experience leading groups of youth A positive, enthusiastic leadership style A valid driver's license with a good driving record Virginia DOE licensing qualifications (college-level coursework in a related field or CDA required) Must be at least 21 years old
