Job Description

Alabama State University, Academic Affairs, invites applications to fill the Lead Teacher position for the Zelia Stephens Early Childhood Center. The selected candidate will be responsible for providing high quality instructions, supervision , and care for children enrolled in the Alabama First Class Pre-K Office of School Readiness classroom at Zelia Stephens Early Childhood Center.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and implement developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with Alabama First Class Pre-K standard while maintaining a high quality learning environment that supports school readiness Conduct ongoing child assessments and use data to inform instruction and intervention Supervise and support assistant teachers, classroom staff, and student interns Maintain compliance with OSR, ADECE, licensing, , accreditation, and center polices Foster positive communication and engagement with families Participate in professional development, coaching, and continuous improvement activities Maintain accurate records, documentation, and required reports Collaborate with center administration, faculty, staff, and community partners to support program goals Perform other duties assigned by the director B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field, valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate in Early Childhood Education (P-3) preferred, experience teaching preschool-age children in a high quality early childhood setting, working knowledge of Alabama First Class Pre-K Standards, developmentally appropriate practices and child assessment systems, strong communication, leadership, organizational, and classroom management skills.
