Make a difference in a child's life - We are seeking a Qualified Preschool Teacher to join our team! Little Orchard Preschool is dedicated to providing quality childcare, interactive learning and memorable experience for young children. The qualified teacher for this position must have approved child development coursework and center based experience. We are looking for a teacher who is able to implement all aspects of our program. Our goal is to contribute to the healthy social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of each child. We are a play based, anti-bias program using active learning practices. We aim to maintain a 1:6 toddler and 1:8 teacher child ratio and have been committed to best practices for 35 years! If you are passionate about working with young children, please apply! Knowledge Has a good understanding of child development and can implement best practices and research based positive discipline approach. Has a good understanding of positive discpline approach and learns the High/Scope Problem Solving Approach to Conflict Implements the High/Scope philosophy Understands and implements the State of California, Title 22 Rules and Regulations, especially as related to health and safety, supervision, and cleanliness. Will be an active participant in sharing ideas and using your knowledge to enhance the program. Responsibilities Along with co-teachers develops and implements a carefully planned active learning program for preschool children for small group time (Language, literacy, math, science) Large group time (music and movement) work time (choice time with a planning and review time for children) outside time, opportunity to visit the farm (goats and chickens) lots of opportunities to interact with friends, teachers and materials. Assesses childrens development using either the COR or DRDP and the ECRS Environmental Rating Scale. Employs a variety of appropriate educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, etc.) to teach children Observes and assists each child to help them improve their social competencies and emotional development Encourages children to interact with each other and resolve conflicts in appropriate ways including a problem by solving approach to conflict. Participates in snack including preparation if necessary. Assists children during nap time, handwashing routines, toileting, diapering clothing changes and clean up Supervises children at all times to ensure they are safe including keeping head count of children Tracks children's progress, prepare child portfolios and report to parents weekly notes, injury reports, illness reports, Communicates and develops a positive trusting relationships with parents, children and staff Collaborates with co-teachers and administration as required. Maintains a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards Incorporates our Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom into daily/weekly lessons. This includes our animals (goats, chickens, rabbit, and gecko). Maintains a positive, respectful and tactful demeanor Participates in mandatory staff meetings and the events throughout the year. Skills Is a team player, mature, committed, honest, and dependable Excellent communication and instructional skills as demonstrated in practice. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS ECE
units-AA/BA degree in child development . Starting pay will be increased from listed with BA degree in child development. Depending upon applicants experience fewer units may be approved. Pay schedule is based on experience as listed in the job description, education, and ability to implement the program. Coursework must include child development, child, family and community, and preschool curriculum. Exact shift to be discussed to start part time. May be altered for needs of school . Mandated Reporter Training certificate (to be kept up to date every two years to maintain employment) Pesticide Training Certificate (annually to be kept up to date for employment) Certification in infant, child & adult CPR required shortly after hire and kept up to date Health and safety in a childcare setting required shortly after hire if needed Any other legal requirements will also be followed.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Working with preschool-age children in Center-based program with "teacher" responsibilities and duties including supervision under the direction of the Director and fully qualified staff. Utilizing developmentally appropriate practices, completing and implementing lesson plans, and preparing assessments
