Job Description

POSITION
Preschool Teacher, ages 4-5 Reports to:
Director, Preschool Works With:

MAJOR PURPOSE AND SCOPE
To assist and support an established Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classroom program within approved state guidelines of instruction to meet the individual needs of each child at an age-appropriate level of growth and development, in accordance with the mission of Westminster Presbyterian Church Preschool.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Work alongside the co-teacher to plan, prepare and implement lessons in alignment with the California Department of Education. Under the guidance of the Director and teacher colleagues, set the tone and articulate the philosophy and values of the school to parents and other members of the school and church community. Create an environment that will inspire reflexive inquiry-based learning while maintaining a developmentally appropriate play-based classroom. Adapt learning styles and approaches to encompass the whole child to ensure developmental readiness for elementary school. Communicate effectively with school and church staff, leadership, school families and others both orally and in written form. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with large numbers of people including children, school families, staff and others.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Minimum of 12 units of college study in early childhood education; commitment to complete additional classes as needed. Minimum 1 year work experience required: preschool classroom with ages 4-5 years. Completion of all State of California Dept of Social Services Title 22 requirements for compliance in a childcare center required. Clear sense of call to Christian ministry with the ability to minister to preschool children and their families. Demonstrate kindness, respect and genuine concern for children, families and staff. Able to establish working relationships with people on many levels; able to be flexible, patient and compassionate, treating all children and parents with dignity and respect. Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism. Ability to think critically and conceptually; reach creative solutions to challenges and problems. Ability to be finger-printed and pass background check. Must comply with the WPC Child and Youth Protection Policy.
