POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for planning and implementation of preschool classrooms and center activities in accordance with E Center requirements, to create an appropriate preschool environment, implement the identified curriculum with developmentally appropriate practices and meeting all other State and Federal regulations. Promotes supportive and positive parent involvement and communication. Promotion to Teacher II is automatic upon supervisory receipt of proof of educational qualifications.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
PERFORMANCE
INDICATORS
Responsible for development and implementation of center and classroom activities ensuring that program requirements are met. Serves as an appropriate model for positive adult/child interactions. Ensure that designated child screening and assessment procedures are conducted. Uses this information to develop and implement a program responsive to each child's needs, including referrals to Head Start specialists and outside organizations. Actively pursue identification of and services for children with disabilities. Maintain nurturing relationships that support children's self-esteem; and promote physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth and development. Provide appropriate supervision, guidance and interaction. Conduct home visits with families of enrolled children to exchange information about child's needs, interests, and development. Use information to develop and implement individualized plans in accordance with program guidelines. Ensure a safe, healthy, supervised environment for young children that is in compliance with all applicable health and safety standards. Maintain current, accurate, organized, written records and reports, as required. Develop good public relations that promote the Program as a valuable resource in the community; promotes and documents in-kind donations. Implement quality teacher/child interactions to foster their development. Maintain confidentiality regarding client and personnel issues, information, and records. May be required to assist with transportation of children. Participate, along with other staff members, in the daily cleaning and maintenance of the center. Encourage parents to participate in center educational and social activities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Acts as technical lead to other education staff, as assigned. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include participation in training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems effectively and efficiently.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Level II:
Associate Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and minimum one-year experience (minimum 3 hours/day for 50 days within 6 months period is equal to one-year experience. Level III Bachelor Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and minimum one-year experience (minimum 3 hours/day for 50 days within 6 months period is equal to one-year experience).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to read and interpret documents such a safety rules, reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of staff or parents. Bilingual, biliterate (English/Spanish, English/Punjabi), and/or other language ability is desired. May be required, based on program needs. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. May need to understand and use simple word-processing and data entry software, including e-mail and Internet access. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possession of or ability to obtain Pediatric First Aid/CPR Certification within first sixty 60 days of work; must maintain current status. Possession of a valid California driver license; current personal vehicle insurance or safe driving record sufficient to ensure insurability through Agency policy. May be required to use personal vehicle in successful completion of job duties and responsibilities. State regulations require a physical examination, current tuberculosis test, and verified fingerprint and criminal record clearance before beginning work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; taste or smell; and occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Requirements by Percentage of the Workday Physical Requirements 0
