Job Description
Position Summary The Assistant Director is responsible for supporting the daily operation, leadership, and overall success of the childcare center. This individual works closely with the Director to maintain a safe, nurturing, organized, and high-quality learning environment for children while providing strong leadership and support to teachers and staff. The ideal candidate is dependable, professional, organized, energetic, and capable of stepping into the Director's responsibilities when needed. Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Staff Management Assist with supervising, coaching, and supporting teachers and childcare staff. Help maintain appropriate staffing and classroom ratios throughout the day. Assist with creating and managing employee schedules. Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, professionalism, and performance. Help train and onboard new employees. Conduct regular classroom observations and provide constructive feedback. Help ensure teachers follow classroom schedules, curriculum expectations, and center policies. Address employee concerns professionally and promptly. Serve as acting Director when the Director is unavailable. Child Safety & Licensing Compliance Help ensure the center remains compliant with Georgia childcare licensing requirements and center policies. Monitor classrooms for proper teacher-to-child ratios. Ensure children's supervision, health, safety, and well-being remain the center's highest priorities. Assist with maintaining required licensing, employee, and children's records. Support emergency preparedness, fire drills, incident reporting, and safety procedures. Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and employees. Parent & Family Relations Welcome parents and children and help create a positive family experience. Maintain professional and respectful communication with families. Respond appropriately to parent questions and concerns. Assist with tours for prospective families. Support enrollment and retention efforts. Help communicate center activities, events, policies, and important updates to families. Daily Center Operations Assist the Director with opening and/or closing responsibilities as assigned. Perform daily walkthroughs of classrooms and common areas. Ensure classrooms are clean, organized, properly staffed, and prepared for children. Monitor meal times, playground activities, transitions, nap periods, and classroom routines. Assist with maintaining supplies and identifying purchasing needs. Help maintain accurate attendance and enrollment information. Assist with administrative duties, paperwork, phone calls, and center communications. Be prepared to work in classrooms when necessary to maintain appropriate coverage. Qualifications Previous childcare experience required; leadership or management experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of childcare licensing requirements and early childhood education practices preferred. Must meet all Georgia childcare employment and background-check requirements. Strong leadership, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate professionally with parents, employees, children, and management. Must be dependable and able to work effectively in a fast-paced childcare environment. CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification. CDA, TCC, Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, or other Early Childhood Education credentials are preferred. Physical Requirements The Assistant Director must be able to perform normal childcare duties, including standing and walking for extended periods, getting up and down from the floor, supervising indoor and outdoor activities, and lifting children or classroom materials when necessary.
