Job Description
The Lead Daycare Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment where young children can learn, grow, and develop. The Lead Teacher plans and implements age-appropriate activities, supervises children, maintains positive relationships with families, and works collaboratively with other teachers and center staff. Key Responsibilities Provide attentive, compassionate, and consistent care to children throughout the day. Plan and implement age-appropriate educational and developmental activities. Create daily lesson plans that support children's social, emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development. Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment. Supervise children at all times and follow all health and safety procedures. Establish and maintain positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding children's daily activities, progress, and needs. Observe and document children's developmental progress and classroom participation. Support children's individual needs, routines, and developmental milestones. Guide children's behavior using positive reinforcement and age-appropriate classroom management techniques. Maintain accurate attendance, classroom, incident, and developmental records as required. Follow all center policies, licensing regulations, and health and safety standards. Assist with diapering, feeding, toileting, nap routines, and other daily care needs as appropriate for the age group. Lead and support assistant teachers and classroom aides. Help train and mentor new classroom staff when assigned. Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, parent events, and center activities. Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and center operations. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; CDA, associate degree, or degree in Early Childhood Education preferred. Previous experience working with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, or school-age children. Previous lead teacher or classroom leadership experience preferred. Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate teaching practices. Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Must be dependable, patient, caring, and able to maintain a positive attitude. Must meet all state and center requirements for childcare employment, including background checks and required health/safety training. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, and sit on the floor for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry children and classroom materials as required. Ability to respond quickly to children's needs and emergencies. Ability to maintain active supervision of children throughout the workday.
