Full Job Description Purpose:

To teach and create a classroom learning environment that welcomes, engages, and cultivates life-long learners Reports to: Church of the Cross Preschool Director Accountable to: Director, students, families, colleagues, volunteers, and the community

Position Summary:

1. This part-time salaried position is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, and assessment of developmentally appropriate learning opportunities for preschool children 2. Serves as a leader in the classroom, collaborates, and partners with team members, and represents Lutheran Church of the Cross as a member of the preschool ministry team

Position Duties, Responsibilities, and Expectations:

Specific duties, responsibilities, and expectations include, but are not limited to: 1. Professes and practices Christianity 2. Life-long learner 3. Reflects upon personal behaviors and practices to evaluate, improve, and grow 4. Creates a caring, Christian preschool classroom that is safe, inviting, developmentally appropriate, and academically rich for preschool children to enjoy learning through play 5. Plans, prepares, and implements developmentally appropriate instruction based on knowledge of the subject matter, learning needs of students, and Church of the Cross curricular guidelines 6. Creates and provides advanced written lesson plans for a minimum of one week 7. Fosters learning, active inquiry, and collaboration within the classroom through the effective use of classroom space, centers, teaching strategies, and questioning 8. Evaluates children's growth and development using informal and formal strategies and instruments 9. Uses assessment information, developed by the CCP staff, to individualize instruction and to share with families 10. Collaborates with colleagues and other educational and community resources to enhance children's preschool experience 11. Communicates effectively and appropriately with children, colleagues, families, and the community 12. Conducts parent-teacher conferences 13. Maintains confidentiality of all student and family information 14. Participates in program evaluation and improvement 15. Follows State of Iowa classroom health and safety regulations procedures 16. Participates in additional activities outside the preschool day including but not limited to orientation, staff meetings, and parent-teacher conferences 17. Engages in on-going professional development and staff training requirements as required by the Department of Human Services 18. Demonstrates professional and ethical conduct adhering to preschool policy, procedures, and position expectations

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 1.

High school diploma or equivalent 2. Successful experience working with young children 3. Satisfies employment health requirements determined by the Department of Human Services licensing guidelines 4. Certification in infant, child, and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, Iowa's mandatory reporting of child abuse, Universal Precautions, and Essentials in Child Care 5. Completed and passed the state and federal Criminal History Background Checks 6. Completed and passed the Child/Dependent Adult Abuse Record Check 7. 21 years of age 8. Able to lift a preschool child

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 1.

At least one of the following educational preparations: a. Associate or Bachelor's degree in a non-child related field b. CDA or one-year diploma in child Development from an accredited school c. Associate degree in Child Development d. Bachelor's degree in a child related field, elementary education, or child development

From $17.00 per hour Expected hours: 7.0 per week
