CHILDCARE ASSOCIATE

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Childcare Associate is a part-time position with flexible hours. The Childcare Associate is responsible for providing a safe and developmentally appropriate environment for children in the childcare program.
REPORTS:
to the Preschool & Childcare Director
ROLES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Supervise children in the childcare areas, providing a safe and secure environment. Provide various age-appropriate experiences and activities for children including songs, games and story-telling as well as opportunities for sleep and rest time. Establish routines and provide positive guidance. Implement positive discipline when required. Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand. Assist in preparing and maintaining order within the physical spaces used by the children. Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor. Participate in training required by the State of Iowa.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Implement activity plan as prescribed by the Director. Team player with good interpersonal skills. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, walk and listen; occasionally required to run, during play or responding to an emergency; engage with children on the floor and at their eye level; use their hands and arms to handle and manipulate objects as well as reach. Occasionally lift and/or move a child. Visual ability required for supervision of children. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Practice safe food handling and clean-up. Perform maintenance, setup and clean-up of the physical classroom space. Ability to ensure the classroom is clean and orderly.
MINIMUM BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma and an interest to work with children in a classroom setting. CDA, Associate or higher degree preferred. Experience in a childcare setting preferred. Reviewed 5/10/2023; 4/17/2023; 5/1/2022
