Job Description

Position Summary:
The Child Care Associate is responsible for supporting the daily care, supervision, and engagement of children enrolled in the Bloom child care program. This position assists with implementing activities, maintaining a safe and nurturing environment, and ensuring appropriate supervision in accordance with Iowa child care licensing standards. The Child Care Associate works under the direction of the On-Site Supervisor and Assistant On-Site Supervisor and plays an important role in supporting children's social, emotional, and physical development, including those with individualized care needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Child Supervision & Engagement Supervise and engage with children in a safe, positive environment. Assist with daily activities, routines, and transitions. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program space. Support children's individual needs and encourage positive behavior. Communicate concerns and follow directions from supervisory staff. Build positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers. Follow all program policies, licensing requirements, and confidentiality standards. Attend required training and staff meetings.
Minimum Qualifications:
At least 16 years of age (or 18+, depending on site requirements) Ability to meet Iowa DHS child care employment requirements Must complete or hold the following (or obtain upon hire): CPR certification (infant, child, adult) First Aid certification Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter Training Medication Administration Training (if applicable/required by role)
Required Skills & Abilities:
Ability to supervise and engage with groups of children Strong communication and teamwork skills Ability to follow directions and maintain consistency with policies Basic understanding of child development and positive behavior support
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with children in a child care, school, or camp setting Coursework in early childhood education, child development, or related field Experience supporting children with special health care needs or behavioral supports Familiarity with structured childcare environments
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs Frequent standing, walking, bending, and active participation with children Ability to respond quickly to children's needs and emergencies Ability to assist with basic physical care tasks as needed
Work Schedule:
Part-time schedule based on program needs (before school, after school, or non-school days) Flexibility required for coverage during peak enrollment, school breaks, and training days Occasional additional hours for staff meetings or training sessions
Pay:
$12.50 - $14.00 per hour
