Lewis Scholars Lead Teacher Job Description:
Far + Wise is a dedicated education non-profit organization offering year-round Kindergarten to Career programming at no cost to qualifying Blaine County students. Through targeted academic support, skills training, and workforce preparation, Far + Wise removes barriers to learning and opportunity and paves the way for lifelong success. Far + Wise delivers two comprehensive programs to support Blaine County students from early learning through the completion of a post-secondary program: Lewis Scholars Program (grades K-12+) : Beginning in kindergarten, daily afterschool enrichment focused on literacy, numeracy, social-emotional development and consistent mentorship through high school graduation. Cimino Center for Career Exploration (grades 6-12+): Hands-on career pathways, workplace exposure, skill-building workshops and post-secondary navigation.
Position Description:
The Lewis Scholars Program Middle School Lead Teacher plays a central role in facilitating daily programming for a cohort of middle school students (primarily grades 6-8). Supported by other faculty, the Lead Teacher is responsible for delivering Far + Wise's curriculum, designing engaging enrichment and experiential learning opportunities, and creating a structured, inclusive environment that meets the developmental needs of early adolescents. This role places a strong emphasis on relationship-building, mentorship, and fostering a sense of belonging during a critical stage of identity development. The Lead Teacher supports students in building key social-emotional skills including agency, collaboration, self-awareness, and adaptability, while also reinforcing academic habits and a positive connection to school. The Middle School Lead Teacher designs and facilitates a mix of classroom-based learning, project-based experiences, and off-campus opportunities such as outdoor education, service learning, and career exploration. This position requires strong classroom leadership, the ability to engage students with varying levels of motivation and readiness, and skill in navigating peer dynamics and behavior as communication. The Lead Teacher works closely with the Director of Education & Impact and other Far + Wise staff to ensure high-quality program implementation, alignment with organizational priorities, and consistent communication with families and school partners. Lewis Scholars Program faculty lead programming aligned with the Blaine County School District calendar, in addition to approximately six weeks of summer programming.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Program Delivery Lead daily after-school programming for a cohort of 20-25 students Implement Far + Wise's curriculum Design and facilitate literacy, math, experience-based learning, arts, and social-emotional enrichment activities Create a safe, inclusive, structured, and engaging classroom environment Serve as a positive role model and support the development of strong habits, skills, and behaviors Provide supervision and guidance to teaching assistants. Student Support & Family Engagement Support students' academic, social, and emotional growth through consistent routines and targeted interventions Maintain accurate student notes, attendance, records, and documentation Communicate regularly and authentically with families, sharing successes, observations, and emerging needs in a supportive, strengths-based way. Partner with the Director of Community Partnerships and Family Engagement to encourage parental involvement Use restorative practices to guide students through conflict, helping them reflect, repair, and develop problem-solving skills. Attend and engage in occasional program events, workshops, and family engagement activities
Program Support:
Help maintain an organized and safe learning environment, including setup, cleanup, and care for classroom materials. Participate in staff trainings, retreats, and professional development Collaborate with other Lewis Scholars program faculty/staff to ensure continuity and quality of programming. Participate actively in team reflection and planning, contributing insights about student, curriculum, and programming. Support contracted outdoor education instructor to facilitate Fulfill other related responsibilities as assigned within a small, collaborative nonprofit environment Other duties as assigned , consistent with the needs of a small, collaborative nonprofit organization.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Experience working with children in education, social work, or related fields Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage students and families effectively Commitment to equity and to supporting students from diverse backgrounds Ability to lead group activities, manage a classroom, and maintain a positive learning environment Basic technology proficiency, including comfort with communication and record-keeping tools Reliable transportation and ability to pass required background checks Availability for occasional evening or weekend activities
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
Spanish language skills Degree in education, social work, or a related field Teaching experience
Compensation and Schedule:
Salary:
Commensurate with experience Employer sponsored health, dental, and retirement plan available. Position averages 30-35 hours per week, with occasional weeks requiring additional hours
