As Assistant Preschool Director, you'll work alongside our Preschool Director in a collaborative, mentorship-focused environment while gaining hands-on experience in center management, staff leadership, curriculum, family relationships, licensing compliance, and day-to-day program operations. You'll help ensure our preschool program provides a safe, nurturing, engaging environment where every child can learn, grow, and thrive. What You'll Do Support the overall organization, delivery, and quality of the Two Rivers YMCA Preschool and early childhood programs. Ensure the safety and well-being of all children by meeting their individual educational, developmental, protective, and nurturing needs. Assist with leading and supporting Preschool staff and volunteers, including assigning and delegating work, providing training, and helping address performance concerns or workplace issues. Help implement thematic and/or creative curriculum and assessment tools to support each child's development and progress. Build positive, collaborative relationships with children, families, coworkers, and community members. Maintain regular, clear, and effective communication with families, staff, and leadership. Stay current on Illinois DCFS Rule 407 licensing standards and assist with maintaining all applicable licensing and regulatory requirements. Assist with program operations, including enrollment, staffing, program statistics, and evaluation of program effectiveness. Assist with monitoring the program budget and working toward established fiscal objectives. Help attract and maintain program enrollment and appropriate staffing levels. Serve as a primary responder in emergency situations and ensure appropriate supervision of program participants. Promote and incorporate the YMCA's mission and character values into all programs and interactions. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Candidates must be at least 21 years of age and possess the ability to effectively relate to and work with diverse groups of people from all social and economic backgrounds. A minimum of one year of related experience is preferred. Must meet Illinois DCFS Director Qualification requirements through one of the following pathways: Option 1: Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Child Development or Early Childhood Education, plus 3 semester hours (or 4.5 quarter hours) of college credit in child care administration, leadership, or management. Option 2: Equivalent education consisting of 64 semester hours (or 96 quarter hours) in any discipline, including at least 21 semester hours (or 31.5 quarter hours) from an accredited college or university in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or Early Childhood Special Education, plus one of the following: Gateways to Opportunity Level I Illinois Director Credential 3 semester hours (or 4.5 quarter hours) of college credit in child care administration, leadership, or management 3 points of credential-approved training in child care administration, leadership, or management Montessori credentials for children ages birth through 12 years issued by a program accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE), American Montessori Society (AMS), or Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) may be substituted for qualifying coursework as permitted under Illinois licensing requirements. The Assistant Preschool Director must be able to: Stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and balance as needed. Use hands and fingers to handle objects, tools, and controls. Regularly use a computer, phone, smart device, and/or iPad. Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and, at times, work in a pool environment. Regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Communicate effectively in a moderately to frequently loud environment.
