Job Description

Owensboro Catholic Schools is seeking a Preschool Classroom Assistant. The ideal candidate will be energetic, enthusiastic, and skilled at problem-solving. A genuine passion for working with young children and supporting early childhood education is essential. The Preschool Classroom Assistant supports the lead teacher in creating a nurturing, safe, and faith-centered learning environment for young children. This role helps implement daily classroom activities while fostering the spiritual, social, emotional, and developmental growth of each child in alignment with the mission of Catholic education.
Duties, Skills, and Responsibilities:
Assists the lead teacher in implementing daily lesson plans and classroom activities. Supports children in learning through play, structured activities, and guided instruction. Helps maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment. Supervises students during classroom time, recess, lunch, and transitions. Provides individual or small-group support to students as directed by the teacher. Reinforces classroom routines, expectations, and positive behavior. Helps with basic care needs such as snack time, restroom routines, and hygiene. Observes student behavior and reports concerns or progress to the lead teacher. Supports arrival and dismissal procedures. Experience working with young children is preferred. Basic understanding of child development and appropriate classroom practices. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to follow directions and take initiative when needed. Ability to lift up to 25-40 pounds. Ability to actively engage with children (sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, playing). Ability to supervise children in both indoor and outdoor settings. The successful candidate must pass a criminal background check and complete safe environment training for the Diocese of Owensboro before employment can be granted.
