Job Description

Kahal B'raira is a small and welcoming Humanistic congregation in Cambridge. We are committed to progressive, non-theistic Judaism. We seek teachers and childcare providers who: Are passionate about social justice values Have some experience working with kids, in a school, camp, or other setting Have a basic familiarity with Jewish culture and customs Are organized, collaborative, and excited to make connections in the Jewish community! Our school meets for 14 Sunday mornings per year, from 9:30am-noon. Our classes are mixed ages, with K-1st grade, 2nd-3rd grade, 4th-5th grade, and 6th-7th grade classes. Childcare is offered to kids age 6 months-5 years. College students, retirees, and those in between are welcome! For more information, please visit our website at kahalbraira.org. Grades K & 1 Teacher Colorful celebrations of the Jewish holidays enable our K-1 children to explore their identity in a fun and positive way. We explore the Jewish calendar, introducing kids to poetry, music and legend as ways of connecting the changes of nature with events in the Jewish past. We emphasize Jewish symbols which provide concrete visual expression and are intended to enable the children to feel a sense of group identity. Children will learn about Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Shabbat, Hanukkah, Tu B'shvat, Purim, and Passover from a Humanistic Jewish perspective. Students learn through group projects, stories, dramatic play, arts and craft, cooking, games and songs. Curriculum and materials are provided, and teachers are welcome to modify them as they wish. Compensation is $160 per Sunday. Childcare At a typical Sunday gathering, we have about 3-5 kids in childcare, ages 3 and older. Parents are asked to remain in the building while their kids are in childcare, and are responsible for diaper changes. The childcare lead will be assisted by two experienced teen aides.
