POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree required.
Coursework in four principal areas:
math, science, social studies, and English. Minimum provisional certification required, preferably in special education.
Experience:
Elementary and middle school remediation and fundamental skills. Experience in instruction or direct care to emotionally disturbed children and adolescents.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide assistance to teacher(s) and students in implementing lesson plans and school assignments, as well as classroom assignments. Provide assistance to teachers and students in implementing four 45-minute instruction periods daily: language, math, social studies and science, to up to ten children of multiple ages and grade levels. Develop Personal Education Plans (PEP) and maintain appropriate records of performance for submission to children's' home schools.
Maintain appropriate classroom structure:
develop daily schedules of instruction, support teacher assistants in behavior management interventions, anticipate crises and be prepared to intervene as needed. Plan and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning: orders or locates suitable materials to support curriculum concepts, and keeps classrooms tidy and appropriately decorated. Takes advantage of opportunities for ongoing learning in the field of education and/or in major curriculum content areas. Meets TCH requirements for 40 overall annual hours of training, including mandatory training such as Crisis Prevention Intervention and First Aid. Ensures maintenance of appropriate daily records of activities, including children's point sheets and census records. Attends periodic meetings with treatment team members as available. To the extent reasonable, plans vacation leave during school-calendar breaks. Accepts responsibility for helping to plan and implement improvements to the TCH Type III Program. Cooperates with and participates in TCH quality improvement programs and initiatives. Implement and monitor each residents individualized behavior management program and individualized treatment plan. Document according to established procedures on a daily basis each resident's condition, behavior, adherence to behavioral and educational contract, and progress towards meeting their treatment goals Assist and monitor residents with activities of daily living skills (ADL), including but not limited to personal hygiene, dressing, selection of appropriate clothing, and care of all personal possessions. Assist and monitor eating behaviors of all clients through the sharing and provision of meals and snacks Performs emergency / crisis prevention intervention procedures as indicated and in accordance with TCH policies and procedures Develop, implement, and participate in all resident activities and outings, including but not limited to recreational activities and work-study. Transport residents using TCH vehicles. Monitor the daily planning and implementation of recreational, educational and work-study activities for residents. Provide assistance to volunteers who provide social and recreational activities Maintain the order, cleanliness, and maintenance of the resident physical plant, including but not limited to resident instruction in the care and maintenance of the residential units and the education environment Serve as the Lead Child Care Specialist for an assigned shift •Must seek Maryland State Residential Child and Youth Care License within 6 months of hire.
