About Harbor Light Early Education Harbor Light Early Education is a nature-based, child-led early childhood program inspired by Montessori and Reggio Emilia philosophies. Located in Marquette, MI, we serve children ages infant to 6 years olds in a calm, inclusive, and intentionally designed environment. Our mission is to nurture curiosity, independence, and belonging—indoors and out. About the Role We are seeking a nurturing, dependable, and creative Early Childhood Guide to join our teaching team. You'll support a group of up to 12 children (in a 1:4 ratio), leading child-directed exploration and fostering development through intentional guidance and nature-based learning experiences. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about early childhood education and inspired by emergent curriculum approaches. Key Responsibilities Guide and supervise children using child-led, nature-based approaches Observe and document development and interests to inform emergent learning Utilize Highscope Curriculum to plan and reflect on lessons Support daily rhythms including arrival, snack, rest, outdoor play, and transitions Foster a calm, respectful environment with social-emotional support Set up engaging, open-ended indoor and outdoor learning environments Model positive behavior and support peaceful conflict resolution Maintain licensing standards for safety, hygiene, and supervision Communicate effectively with families and the lead educator Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Must meet Michigan Child Care Licensing requirements (including fingerprinting, TB test, and comprehensive background check) Willingness to complete required health and safety trainings CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire) Experience working with children ages 2-6, either professionally or in a practicum/volunteer role Preferred Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field Knowledge of or interest in Montessori, Reggio Emilia, or nature-based education (ongoing training in these philosophies will be provided) Familiarity with Great Start to Quality standards Experience working in a licensed early childhood program What We Offer Competitive Salary based on experience: $16-$24/ hour Health, dental, and vision insurance Paid Time Off Bonuses based on performance and attendance A supportive, collaborative teaching environment Paid training and professional development Opportunity to co-create curriculum and influence programming Connection to a like-minded educational community
