POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Engage in activities with children at their physical level
  • Assist with classroom activities and create a positive learning environment
  • Assists with the set-up of the classroom and materials
  • Assist Lead Teacher and Associate Teacher with classroom management
  • Conduct (1) 45-minute home visit and (2) 30-minute parent/teacher conferences annually for every child and family with Lead Teacher and Associate Teacher
  • Build relationships with students and parents to ensure a safe, welcoming, and engaging earning environment
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible
  • Participate in professional development provided by Berrien Resa, and the YMCA
  • Help cultivate and support a positive building culture
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all student affairs
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Meets the LARA, Child Care Licensing Division requirements as a "caregiver." Greater than 18 years old and must be able to pass a background check
  • Preschool experience preferred
  • Ability to work in cooperative and collegial manner with GSRP Lead Teacher and Associate Teacher
  • Ability to engage and inspire students of varying learning styles
  • First Aid, CPR, AED, Child Abuse Prevention, and Safety Prevention Trainings are required
  • A warm, caring, child centered attitude
  • Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the job
  • Reliable attendance
  • Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED training through American Red Cross is required for all employees of the YMCA of Greater Michiana, this training will be offered at no cost.
