Description:

Under the general direction of the ECFE/SR Manager, the parent Educator/Home Visitor is responsible for planning, developing lesson plans and facilitating parent groups to discuss and explore family needs, parenting skills, and specific parenting issues with parents. The Parent Educator researches, interprets and presents current information of family issues, serves as a resource to parents and provides referral information, as needed.

Job Summary:

Parent Education:

Plans, designs and facilitates curriculum that addresses all areas of the early childhood learning standards regarding child and parent development using the Parent Education Core Curriculum Framework. Observes and monitors the cognitive and emotional development of children through observation of play and social interactions. Meets with parents to discuss any developmental issues or concerns and facilitates referral to other services, if needed. Establishes a rapport with parents and offers support, behavioral strategies and resources to promote and facilitate the development and strengthening of their parenting skills and understanding of the cognitive and emotional development of their children. Models and teaches parents effective behavioral strategies in dealing with their children and addressing their needs. Makes follow up calls to parents to monitor specific needs and concerns. Collaborates with staff and individual teams on curriculum which includes best practices for Early Childhood Family Education classes. Creates a climate of trust and safety which includes the importance of privacy and confidentiality. Arranges a safe and appealing environment in which to learn.

Home Visitor:

Plans, facilitates and conducts home visits with early childhood families. Empower parents to meet their own and their children's needs. Provide information about community resources and facilitate connections. Promote the development of the family as well as the children through activities, modeling and encouragement.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in early childhood education, parent education, early childhood special education or related field. Licensed by the State of MN in Parent Education. Knowledge of parent education, adult learning and the Parent Education Core Curriculum Framework. Ability to work effectively with children and parents. Experience with early childhood home visiting. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program manager and staff, district personnel and students. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Evidence of self motivation, enthusiasm, patience, problem solving and flexibility. Evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of TASCEI
