We are seeking a childcare worker to serve the youngest members of our church community, to help us create a positive, welcoming atmosphere in which we value all persons and learn to be kind to one another. We accept children of all abilities and characteristics and meet them where they are. Help us develop trusting relationships with children and parents. Work well with care partners (usually work in team of two for approximately 3-8 children).

Responsibilities:

Arrive before your shift begins. Greet family members and help each child get settled. If a child is new to the group, chat with parents about child's age, special dietary or behavioral needs, allergies, kinds of activities the child likes best, preferred name(s) and pronouns, special needs, etc. Create a record of what you learned from parents and get their contact information. Return each child to the parent(s) at coffee hour. Take a few minutes to answer questions parents might have. Write down the names of children whom you cared for before you leave for the day. Add any notes that you think might help you or your teammate work with the child the next time.

Provide age and ability-appropriate care:

This may vary from holding or rocking the child, to reading and telling stories, working with crafts and puzzles, playing with toys, escorting to the bathroom, etc. If first aid has been offered to a child, inform the parent(s). Be aware of safety issues (choking hazards, sharp objects, etc.) and remove items as needed. Inform the Childcare Coordinator or Bishop's Warden if items are broken, worn out or used up. Put items needing sanitizing in the appropriate basket/bucket before you leave and record your start and end time.

Requirements:

18 years or older; high school degree or equivalent. Knowledgeable about age level appropriate care of children of all abilities, ages 2-10. Willingness to comply with required background check. Willingness to complete required training including Safe Church training (online).
