Full Time or Part Time:
Full Time Hours per week: 40 Key responsibilities / day-to-day job functions: Develop a faith-filled and creative classroom program suitable for preschool children and based on the written curriculum provided by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh Employ a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, media etc.) to teach children Observe each child to help them improve their social and educational competencies and build self-esteem Encourage children to interact with each other and peacefully resolve occasional discord Guide children to develop their artistic and practical capabilities through a carefully constructed curriculum (identify shapes, numbers or colors, create crafts etc.) Organize rest and snack/meal hours, and supervise children to ensure they are safe at all times Assess and record children's progress and report to parents Communicate with parents regularly to gain better understanding of the children's background and encourage parental involvement in the educational process Collaborate with other educators and administration Maintain a clean and organized classroom consistent with health and safety standards Supervises (if applicable, list positions supervised by this position):
Instructional Assistant Minimum Requirements:
Proven experience as a Preschool Teacher Expressed understanding of the principles of child development and preschool educational methods Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms and preschools Effective communication and instructional skills Ability to positively and effectively mediate between children Positive, patient, friendly and reliable Certification in child
CPR Preferred Qualifications:
Degree and valid licensure in early childhood education or elementary education Previous experience as an effective preschool teacher Parish or school background information (number of families, philosophy, etc.): At St. Thomas More Catholic School, the early childhood classrooms offer an environment that encourages 3- and 4-year-old children to explore, question, and learn. The curriculum revolves around a child's natural tendency to "learn through play," allowing children to approach new concepts in a "hands-on" manner. Each child has the opportunity to follow his/her interests within the classroom community and be recognized as a special and unique child of God. It is important that each child feels respected, loved, and valued as the focus is on the development of the whole child in all areas: spiritual, fine motor, cognitive, physical, social, emotional, mathematical, and critical thinking.
