Job Description

Position Overview:
Sharon Presbyterian Weekday School (SPWS) is a ministry of Sharon Presbyterian Church, located in the South Park area of Charlotte. SPWS is a faith-based, half-day preschool. Our play-based curriculum allows for instructional flexibility, while providing an environment that encourages each child to grow spiritually, socially, academically, physically, and emotionally. Teachers are employed part-time, August - May, 2-5 days per week, depending on the class(es) taught. Teachers work in co-teaching pairs, with equal privileges and responsibilities.
Qualifications:
Teachers must:
  • Display a respect and love for preschool-aged children and their families.
  • Demonstrate a mature sensibility for modeling appropriate oral communication with each other and their students.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships and open lines of oral and written communication with fellow staff and families.
  • Exhibit strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Utilize a web-based platform for parent communication and record keeping.
A preferred candidate for this position would have educational experience focusing in early childhood education, child development or a related field, or related experience, preferably in a preschool or Elementary setting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Utilize our adopted Creative Curriculum as the foundational content for instruction in all classes.
  • Deliver simple, faith-based affirmations to children, to help them grow in the understanding that they are loved exactly as God has created them to be.
  • Communicate with families regularly to share class news, upcoming events, special celebrations, and photographs.
  • Help children negotiate new experiences with early social-emotional development.
  • Guide preschool-age children in practicing skills that will contribute to their readiness for their next steps in school.
  • Attend to the developmental needs of each student, and provide individualized attention to students who need more support.
  • Attune to the emotional needs of each student, and provide a safe, loving environment in which exploration is encouraged and problem-solving is celebrated.
  • Adhere to the processes and protocols established, to contribute to a culture that is safe, supportive, equitable, and enjoyable.
  • Be capable of meeting the physical requirements of this job, which include walking, sitting, climbing, standing, crouching, stooping, kneeling, lifting (30 lbs.
), carrying (30 lbs.), pushing, pulling (30 lbs.) and bending.
