Qualifications/Requirements:
Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in appropriate licensure area.
Goal:
To create a flexible pre-kindergarten class environment favorable to learning and personal growth of pupils; to motivate pupils to develop speech abilities, attitudes, skills, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for participation in the total school program, in accordance with each pupil's ability; to build strong ties between home and school; and to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members.
Duties:
Provide learning experiences in language arts, physical education, art, music, health, and other subject matter, using suggestions in district curriculum publications Develop and use instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of pupils with wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturities Develop in each pupil an awareness of personal worth and the role the pupil plays in family and community Encourages pupil to express themselves creatively in art, music, and dramatic play Provide individual and small-group instruction designed to meet individual needs of pupils in communication skills, health habits, physical skills, and development of satisfactory self-concepts Enrich educational program through study trips to community resources such as museums and parks and through classroom visits by resource persons from the school and community Plan and coordinate the work of assistants, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips to obtain the maximum benefit from their efforts Develop activities for parents which promote parent participation and involvement in educational activities provided for their children Communicate regularly with parents by means of parent meetings and individual parent conferences Interpret school program to parents to strengthen parental understanding of the individual pupil's needs and the school's role in the individual pupil's life Provide appropriate climate to establish and reinforce acceptable pupil behavior, attitudes, and social skills Cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of pupils' work Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities Select and requisition books, instructional aids, instructional supplies, and food Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs as required Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects Other duties as assigned
