The teacher creates a positive and engaging classroom environment where all students can succeed. Responsibilities include planning and delivering lessons, tracking student progress, and following school and state guidelines. The teacher provides instruction in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS), helping students build real-world skills related to family life, careers, and everyday decision-making. The goal is to help students succeed academically while preparing them for future careers and life responsibilities. Key Responsibilities Plan and teach hands-on, career-focused lessons in Family and Consumer Sciences Help students understand important life topics such as health, family relationships, childcare, work-life balance, and technology use Create and maintain an organized and positive classroom and computer lab environment Oversee childcare center internships Monitor student progress and adjust instruction to meet different learning needs Support student participation in Career and Technical Education (CTE) student organizations and competitions Organize and participate in field trips to colleges, workplaces, and training programs Help promote innovative programs in business, technology, and career readiness Build partnerships with local businesses and community organizations to support student learning Prepare students with practical skills and knowledge aligned with national FCS standards Program Focus Areas Human Development Early Childhood Education Work Schedule 10-month school year position Education Requirements Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a related field such as: Child Development, Family Studies, or Human Development Psychology, Sociology, or Counseling Birth-Kindergarten Education or Social Work Family and Consumer Sciences or Community Services Nutrition, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Interior Design, or related fields Experience Requirements (for certain licensure routes) 2 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 4 years of related experience with an Associate's degree Examples of Relevant Experience Social worker or case manager Counselor or therapist (family or child-focused) Preschool or childcare director/teacher Kindergarten teacher Community or public health educator Extension agent in family or child development Experience teaching in a related subject area
