Job Description

Position Summary We are currently seeking an experienced and nurturing Preschool Teacher who displays strong communication skills and can work collaboratively as part of a team of Co-Teachers in creating meaningful and engaging learning opportunities through a variety of indoor and outdoor multi-sensory activities and experiences that support preschoolers in their own discoveries, interactions and connections in their world. Crossroads' classrooms are staffed with teachers who have a passion for working with young children and fostering their holistic development. The teachers all share equal responsibility for the well-being of the children in our care and the success of our program. As such, each classroom is managed by a team of Co-Teachers, providing equal opportunity to all members of our teaching staff to contribute to the creation of a respectful, creative, loving and fruitful learning environment.
Responsibilities Program Development:
Create and implement a developmentally appropriate program for mixed-age preschool class, including sensory-rich and stimulating play activities which foster cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in young children.
Classroom Management:
Provide and maintain a nurturing, safe, orderly, and positive environment with predictable routines and rituals, where children feel connected, valued and encouraged to explore.
Observation and Assessment:
Observe and document preschoolers, their experiences and behavior, in order to effectively support their individual development and successful participation in the group environment.
Parent Communication:
Partner effectively with parents in support of each preschooler's well-being and growth in all areas of development. This includes face-to-face communication as well as emails, telephone calls, creating a weekly newsletter, and bi-annual Parent-Teacher Conversations.
Collaborative Teamwork:
Communicate consistently with Co-Teachers to ensure effective collaboration and division of classroom responsibilities. The precise breakdown of duties is left up to each team of Co-Teachers. The goal is always to provide the best possible environment and experience for the children consistent with Crossroads' Mission Statement and Program Philosophy (see attached).
Indoor and Outdoor Learning Environments:
Foster inviting and stimulating learning experiences, both indoors and outdoors, that support open-ended play, hands-on exploration and discovery.
Health and Safety:
Follow all health and safety guidelines and protocols, ensuring the well-being of the children by providing close supervision of children during all activities.
Compliance:
Be familiar with current licensing regulations, policies and procedures related to early childhood education.
Professional Development:
Attend at least 12 hours of continuing staff development each year. Stay updated with current early childhood education practices, attend professional development opportunities, and actively engage in ongoing learning and personal growth.
Administrative Duties:
Assist with all center/classroom paperwork, for example: student accident/injury reports, daily attendance records, illness logs, etc.
Meeting/Event Participation:
Attend and participate in staff meetings, team meetings, center events and parent meetings as requested/required.
Qualifications Education:
Minimum Bachelor's degree required; coursework in Early Childhood Education or a related field a plus.
Experience:
Experience working with preschoolers.
Communication Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with children, parents and colleagues.
Collaborative Spirit:
Ability to work effectively as part of a teaching team, contributing to a collaborative, cooperative, and reflective approach.
Organization and Adaptability:
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to the ongoing changes in the classroom, such as, attending to the physical, social and emotional needs of preschoolers (transitions, conflict resolutions, meal times, nap times, toileting). Physical Requirements Constantly twist/bend/stoop/squat Frequently stand/walk, lift/carry/push/pull objects/children that weigh up to 50 pounds, grasp lightly/utilize fine motor skills/manipulation Occasionally sit, kneel/crawl, reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, use a telephone, write by hand/type, sort/file, scrub, sweep Requires good visual and auditory acuity Capacity to work outdoors including in inclement weather Other duties may also be assigned; not all unique aspects of this job are covered by this job description.
