Dental insurance Health insurance Life insurance Vision insurance As a Navajo Language & Culture Teacher, you will be responsible for serving as a classroom teacher in a public charter school. The instruction area will be Navajo Language and Culture in an elementary setting. This position will be assigned to grade levels Pre K- Kindergarten. Teacher will support Navajo Language and culture through teaching and hands on activities.
Duties:
Prepare yearly instructional maps to meet daily lesson plans covering units of study and objectives, activities and evaluative methods/instruments for both group and individual instructional programs. Work cooperatively with all teachers to ensure that the Navajo language is supported and practiced in all classrooms. Teaching students by selecting, developing, adapting and implementing appropriate instructional methods and techniques utilizing resources to provide for academic achievement. Evaluate individual and group academic progress through the use of criterion-referenced tests, periodic standardized tests, oral tests, and/or other relevant evaluative methods/instruments. Develop and conduct instruction in an environment that promotes opportunities for students to develop rapport, inter-relationships, self-discipline and a positive self-image. Maintain control of assigned class(es) and handle discipline independently except for chronic or extreme behavior problems. Supervise assigned students as scheduled, throughout the academic day and/or activity in order to provide for the safety, health, and welfare of the students' in compliance with school, agency, and NMPED guidelines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Associates or Bachelor's degree with 3 years teaching experience at the elementary level. Valid New Mexico teaching licensure with proper endorsement Level II Licensure or 520 License required Excellent verbal and written communication skills Valid driver's license Must pass a background check for the position Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and sometimes high-pressure environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
May have to stand and sit for longer periods of time; Position requires frequent lifting of 25 lbs. Must be able to be active with 4 and 5-year-old students.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a classroom environment with up to 15 students in 5 course periods per day. Rich Cultural Classroom promoting Native American history and culture.
