Licensed by the Office of Children and Family Services and in partnership with the Bedford Central School District and Family Services of Westchester Head Start Preschool Program; the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester utilizes their classrooms, preschool playground, gym and pool facilities to prepare children ages 3-5 for kindergarten. The Head Start Program provides free, quality education and resources to low-income families.

Operating in its 85th year, the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester (hereinafter referred to as BGCNW), located at 351 Main St. in Mt. Kisco, NY, provides a host of high-quality, developmentally appropriate programs for a diverse membership of area children ages 6 months to 18 years. The mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, caring citizens. //bgcnw.com Job Description As a Head Teacher for the BGCNW Early Childhood Education Head Start Program, you will be responsible for the academic, social, and emotional development of children in a safe supervised environment. Classroom Management
  • To supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times being alert of the needs and/or problems of the children as individuals and as a group.
  • Supervise and direct the assistant teacher
  • Managing daily attendance and feeding records as well as daily sheets to be sent home with children. Document and share the important milestones in their children's day with parents. Curriculum
  • Create, develop and lead daily classroom schedule with the assistance of the Assistant Teacher based on your observations of children's interests and needs. This includes frequently reminding children of rules, arranging interest areas and furniture, allowing for a smooth transition for adults and children; allowing children to engage in all activities in the program schedule.
  • Employ a variety of educational techniques including, storytelling, educational and imaginary play, media, movement, etc. to encourage the children to participate in gross motor activities during the day including swimming.
  • Observe each child to help them to improve their social competencies and build esteem
  • Encourage children to interact with each other and resolve occasional differences.
  • Guide children to develop their artistic and practical capabilities through carefully constructed curriculum (identifying shapes, numbers, colors, name, and doing crafts)
  • Track children's progress in child's files to and report to parents regularly and during conferences.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards (proper and consistent sanitation, regular handwashing of staff and students, etc.)
  • Communicate with parents/guardians, including, but not limited to, parent-teacher conferences, class newsletters and home visits.
  • Supervise and support assistant teachers.
  • Collaborate with Family Services, Special Education, Health Services as appropriate.
  • Attend team meetings and in-service trainings as required.
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervisor. Meetings, Lessons & Training
  • Plan weekly class lessons using the Creative Curriculum and share with the Childcare Director two Thursdays prior
  • Create a monthly classroom newsletter and share with the Childcare Director on the last Monday of the Month.
  • Attend monthly meetings called by ECE Lead Teacher and Director of Programming and Chief Executive Officer, communicate if you are unable to attend set meeting in a timely manner.
  • Complete Annual Mandated Reporter Training.
  • Complete 15 hours of accredited training every 2 years including suggested training by the Childcare Director and Director of Programming.
  • Keep current on CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Plan and create a lesson plan for observation with Childcare Director Bi-Annually (once with the collaborative teacher and once on your own) BGCNW Staff Professional Commitment to Mission
  • Following BGCNW social media pages
  • Viewing and sharing BGCNW social media post and stories
  • Attending minimum 4 BGCNW engagements independent of the development

The noise level in the work environment can range from quiet to moderate in office settings to moderate and usually loud in recreation and play settings when children are present. All employees working directly with children at all Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester are required to work outdoors in various types of weather conditions.
