Licensed by the New York State Education Department, Mohawk promotes academic readiness through an enriched early childhood curriculum that supports children's social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. We believe that the early childhood years are foundational to a lifetime of learning. Children must be motivated and inspired to develop their minds and bodies by building an awareness of the world around them, both in and out of the classroom. Our curriculum introduces children to early concepts and foundational skills in literacy, writing, phonics, mathematics, science, and social studies while also incorporating nature, STEM, art, music, physical education, and social-emotional learning. Mohawk's philosophy, dedicated staff, exceptional facilities, and diverse programming help every child grow socially and intellectually at a pace that is right for them while creating a bridge to future educational success. Our four-year-old students participate in whole-group and small-group instruction, hands-on projects, outdoor exploration, choice time, and specialty classes including Art, Library, STEM, Music, Nature, and Physical Education. Position Overview We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative, energetic, and highly professional Preschool Fours Head Teacher to lead one of our four-year-old classrooms for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate is passionate about early childhood education, excited to plan engaging projects and learning experiences, and committed to helping children develop the academic and social-emotional skills necessary for kindergarten readiness. Key Responsibilities Plan, design, and implement creative, developmentally appropriate lessons, projects, learning centers, and hands-on experiences that support academic readiness, foster curiosity and engagement, and inspire a lifelong love of learning while aligning with Mohawk's educational philosophy and program goals. Follow and effectively implement established curricula, including Learning Without Tears, while adapting instruction to meet the needs and interests of students. Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages exploration, creativity, independence, and confidence. Foster children's growth in social-emotional development, communication and language, literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies. Lead whole-group, small-group, and individualized learning experiences. Lead and mentor assistant teachers, fostering a collaborative classroom team while supporting professional growth and development. Observe, assess, and document children's progress and development while maintaining accurate records and portfolios. Prepare thoughtful and well-written report card narratives twice annually that accurately reflect each child's growth, development, strengths, and progress across all areas of learning. Build strong partnerships with families through professional, responsive, and effective communication, including daily interactions, email correspondence, phone conversations, and parent-teacher conferences. Write thoughtful, well-organized weekly newsletters that effectively communicate classroom activities, learning objectives, student experiences, and important information to families. Actively engage with children through exploration, movement, outdoor learning, games, and hands-on activities daily. Maintain classroom organization, materials, learning centers, and instructional resources. Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events. Uphold school policies, professional standards, dress code expectations, and code of conduct requirements. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred. Previous preschool teaching experience required; lead teacher experience preferred. Strong understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practices. Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills. Ability to write professional newsletters, family communications, and student evaluations. Strong classroom management skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Energetic, physically active, and comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Flexible, adaptable, and willing to support the changing needs of the school community. Reliable transportation and the ability to commute to White Plains, NY daily and arrive on time. Professional appearance and adherence to school dress code and code of conduct are required. Be committed to continuous learning and professional growth. Compensation & Benefits $23-$25 per hour, depending on experience. 5 Paid Sick/Personal Days. Approximately 28 additional paid vacation days, including winter break, spring break, holidays, and other scheduled school closings. All scheduled school breaks and closures are paid.
