JOB SUMMARY
The Early Head Start Teacher is responsible for the social-emotional growth and development of all infant and toddler children in their care; develops partnerships with parents/guardians to engage and encourage parent participation in the program. The Early Head Start (EHS) Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and organizing daily experiences for children. The EHS Teacher will conduct activities to ensure compliance with all Head Start rules and regulations; licensing laws and all funding source regulations. The Teacher will act professionally at all times.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
: 1. Work within goals, policies, and activities designed to meet performance standards and other Head Start / Early Head Start mandates; 2. Ensure compliance with ODJFS Child Care Licensing Rules & Regulations and Step Up to Quality Program Standards; 3. Within performance standards, assumes complete charge of the assigned classroom and/or other assigned areas during class period; 4. Provides a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment that reflects children's learning and growth; 5. Prepare and conduct classroom activities that are developmentally appropriate for infants and toddlers; 6. Perform on-going developmental assessments of children as required by funding sources and develop lesson plans and follow curriculum implementation that addresses the individual needs of each child; 7. On an on-going basis, plan to evaluate and improve the physical environment in the classroom to create opportunities to meet the changing needs of the developing child; 8. Assesses the individual child and develop an individualized learning plan for each child in conjunction with the child's family; 9. Provide responsive care to all children by adapting daily caregiving routines and plans to the interest and needs of the individual child and the group; 10. Demonstrate cultural competency and respect for the children's background by incorporating the culture, linguistic and familial values and beliefs into the program and lesson plans; 12. Maintains current, complete, accurate, and timely records as required by the program, and ensure their confidentiality; 13. Completes an annual inventory of the classroom equipment; 14. Assists in serving meals to the children, utilizing a family-style approach; 15. Works collaboratively with co-teacher in sharing responsibilities for the classroom; 16. Ensure that each family receives an opportunity to build strong relationships and experiences clear communication with teaching staff; 17. Prepare home teaching lessons to share with the families; 18. Make referrals as appropriate, based on screening results, observations, or family concerns; 19. Supports/Integrates all Early Head Start components as possible into the classroom; 20. Attends center/parent/agency meetings as required; 21. Must attend all training and/or workshops provided by the program and other professional training opportunities as assigned by the Site Administrator to enhance knowledge, skills, and performance when working with infants & toddlers; 22. Maintains Ohio Professional Development Registry Profile; 23. Include health, nutrition, and mental health objectives throughout the classroom activities and routines; 24. Identify and report any suspected abuse and/or neglect to the program's designated personnel; 25. Make a minimum of two home visits and two-parent conferences per year; 26. Promote family engagement and encourage parent participation in program activities; 27. Attend and participate in scheduled parent meetings at least two times a year; 28. Complete monthly reports and submit by mandated deadlines; 29. Assist in generating and tracking In-Kind; 30. Must understand community action and is committed to agency culture; acts as a role model; 32. Be effective at team building and creating positive morale; 33. Maintain the confidentiality of privileged information; 34. Be familiar with and have an understanding of the agency's mission, strategic plan, goals, and measures; 35. Maintain a neat, clean, professional appearance and demeanor at all times; and exercise good health habits related to personal hygiene; and 36. All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Site Administrator.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPECTATIONS
A Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) and training (or equivalent coursework) in early childhood development with a focus on infant and toddler development is required. Must have the training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with young children. The training must develop knowledge of infant and toddler development, safety issues in infant and toddler care, and methods for communicating effectively in a classroom with infants and toddlers. Willingness to continue education toward degree attainment by taking special courses, attending training workshops and seminars in the city and out of town. 1. Frequently walk throughout the day (Ex. hallway to restroom, gym, outside, etc.); 2. Frequently required to stand and sit, reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, bend and squat to children's eye level throughout the day; 3. Have the ability to be fast on their feet and maintain endurance to keep up with infant/ toddler age children; 4. Have the ability to regularly lift and bend over to assist with infant and toddler diaper changing (Multi-age room (infants through 36 months), weight varies between 4lbs.- 40lbs); 5. Frequently uses hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; 6. Frequent face-to-face verbal conversations and the ability to hear and listen; 7. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus; 8. Bachelor or Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education; 9. Minimum of one-year work experience in an Early Childhood Program; 10. Must possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and strong organizational skills; Community Action Commission of Erie, Huron & Richland Counties, Inc. Exhibit knowledge of business communication; must have excellent spelling and grammar skills; 13. Must have an understanding and awareness of the needs of low-income families; 14. Must have current certification in First Aid/CPR, Common Childhood Illnesses and Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention; 15. Willing to travel out-of-town and overnight for training; 16. Must have access to an operational automobile daily and proof of liability insurance; and 17. Physical exam, background check, and pre-employment and random drug screen, as required.
