This position reports to the Center Director and works closely with the Foodservice Coordinator, who oversees menu planning, food purchasing, inventory management, and compliance with food program requirements. The Assistant Cook focuses on the daily preparation, service, sanitation, and organization of the kitchen and feeding areas. The Assistant Cook occasionally assists the Foodservice Coordinator with the preparation of meals for the church and its other ministries.
Anticipated Work Schedule:
Monday-Thursday:
7:00 am - 12:00 pm (may be sent home earlier)
Friday:
7:00 am - 3:00 pm (may need to stay longer) Occasional Wednesday nights (will be planned in advance) Acts 2

Food Preparation and Service Prepare meals and snacks according to menus provided by the Foodservice Coordinator. Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department requirements. Prepare food in appropriate quantities based on daily attendance. Ensure food is prepared and served at proper temperatures. Set up food warmers and serving stations as needed. Serve or assist with serving family-style meals and snacks to classrooms. Properly store, label, and dispose of food according to established guidelines. Communicate supply shortages, equipment concerns, or menu substitution needs to the Foodservice Coordinator or Center Director. Kitchen Cleaning and Sanitation Clean and sanitize counters, sinks, food preparation surfaces, appliances, and kitchen equipment daily. Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, and serving items using approved procedures. Sweep and mop kitchen floors daily. Maintain a clean and organized pantry, refrigerator, freezer, and storage areas. Rotate food items using First-In, First-Out (FIFO) practices as directed. Assist with routine cleaning of refrigerators, cabinets, shelving, and other kitchen areas. Remove trash and maintain sanitary conditions throughout the kitchen. Additional Responsibilities Follow all childcare licensing regulations, food program requirements, and Acts 2 policies. Participate in required training and staff meetings. Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff. Perform other related duties as assigned to support the ministry and operations of Acts 2 United Methodist Church. Requirements Must be at least 18 years of age. Ability to pass a background check. Obtain required food service training within three (3) months of employment. Current CPR certification or willingness to obtain. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a faith-based environment Ability to safely prepare and serve food. Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 40 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods of time. Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Ability to work cooperatively with childcare staff, the Foodservice Coordinator, and Center Director. Preferred Qualifications One year of food service experience. Experience working in a childcare, school, or institutional kitchen. Current Food Handler Permit or ServSafe certification. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices. Experience preparing meals for large groups. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.

From $14.00 per hour
