•Experience in childcare or education preferred Amarillo Montessori Academy (AMA) was founded in 1968. The first class had 19 children ages 3-5. Currently we serve 200 children ages 6 weeks through the 5th grade. AMA, while licensed as a daycare, is much more. "Amarillo Montessori Academy's mission is to foster independent, confident, academically prepared, and socially responsible citizens, who will be lifelong learners and problem solvers." The teacher's role according to Montessori methodology is to guide and observe rather than dictate, which enables the child to progress at an individual pace and rhythm. In this respect, our teachers are carefully selected based upon their educational philosophy as well as their skill set and qualifications. Our Montessori teachers are dedicated to developing lifelong learners. They are known for their warmth, commitment to their profession and loving spirit. They genuinely care about children, and have a sensitivity and knowledge to understand a child's individual developmental needs and learning styles. They take the time to help each child discover his or her own way of learning. We are very lucky to have wonderful team members at AMA! Anyone interested in joining our team can expect the following: Pre-employment drug screening and quarterly random drug screening thereafter A background check and if necessary fingerprints, 8 hours of pre-service training, to include SIDS and Shaken Baby Training CPR and First Aid training as needed to stay certified 24 hours of continuing education on an annual basis.
