Job Description

About the Role We are looking for an experienced, passionate, and grounded Montessori educator to lead our toddler classroom at Bastrop Montessori. This is not an entry-level position — we need someone who walks in with confidence, a deep respect for the Montessori philosophy, and a genuine love for the toddler plane of development. If you light up around 18-month to 3-year-olds, understand the beauty and intention behind a prepared environment, and lead children with calm authority and warmth — we want to meet you.
Full Time:
8:30am - 5:30pm, Monday - Friday What We're Looking For A Montessori-trained or experienced guide — this is a requirement, not a plus. AMI or AMS toddler or primary certification is strongly preferred Someone who has a deep understanding of the toddler plane of development and can apply Montessori principles with fidelity and intention A natural leader who can guide, mentor, and collaborate with a support guide in the classroom Someone who maintains firm, loving, and consistent boundaries with toddlers — we follow the child as their leader, not permissively A professional who takes reliability, punctuality, and appearance seriously — every single day Someone who can multitask and think quickly while remaining calm and intentional in a busy toddler environment A person who embraces outdoor play in all seasons and weather — including mud play, which is a regular and beloved part of our program Someone who actively engages with children during outdoor time — not a bystander, but a participant A creative spirit who can bring fresh energy and ideas, including to afterschool programming A team player who communicates proactively with administration, families, and colleagues Someone who follows and upholds our school handbook consistently and without exception Responsibilities Plan, prepare, and lead a beautiful, intentional Montessori toddler environment Observe children closely and use those observations to guide individualized work and development Maintain a calm, clean, and orderly classroom in accordance with Montessori principles of beauty, order, and simplicity Provide behavioral guidance that is respectful, firm, and developmentally appropriate for the toddler age Mentor and support your classroom's support guide, modeling best practices and Montessori philosophy Assist children with physical needs including diapering, potty training, bathroom escorting, and clothing changes as needed Build warm, professional relationships with families and communicate proactively about each child's progress and needs Supervise and actively participate in outdoor and mud play in all seasons and weather conditions Bring creative ideas and energy to afterschool activities Model integrity, curiosity, responsibility, creativity, and respect for all people including appreciation for racial, cultural, and gender diversity Respond to stress and conflict with professionalism and composure Follow the Bastrop Montessori school handbook consistently and without exception Maintain professional appearance and be present and on time — every day Professional Growth We are a school that takes Montessori seriously and we invest in guides who do too. Qualifications Montessori training and/or significant Montessori classroom experience is required — AMI or AMS toddler or primary certification strongly preferred Experience working with children ages 18 months - 3 years required High school diploma or equivalent required; degree or coursework in early childhood education strongly preferred Strong verbal and written communication skills in English Spanish/English bilingual is a plus Experience working with diverse students and families Must be comfortable working outdoors in varying Texas weather including heat, humidity, cold, and mud Physical Requirements Ability to sit on the floor, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach regularly Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally Must be comfortable working outdoors in all Texas weather conditions — including mud!
