Job Description

Position Summary The Assistant Director supports the daily operation of the child-care center in accordance with Texas Health and Human Services Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards. This role ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, maintains accurate student records, oversees curriculum implementation, and supports staff in providing a safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate environment for children. This position will serve as the primary contact for parents, ensuring a welcoming environment for children and families. In addition, this position will be responsible for curriculum development and implementation with a focus on Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP) in all classrooms. The Assistant Director serves as the Director's designee in their absence. Key Responsibilities Curriculum & Program Implementation Oversee implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets the needs of all children Ensure lesson plans are prepared, posted, and followed consistently Monitor classrooms to ensure activities support children's growth across developmental domains (cognitive, physical, social-emotional) Provide coaching and guidance to teachers to ensure effective classroom management and engagement Ensure daily schedules include a balance of structured and unstructured activities Family Engagement Ensure open and professional communication with parents Ensure timely orientation and transition for all children and parents entering the program and/or a new classroom Support staff in maintaining daily communication regarding children's care and development Address parent concerns in a timely and professional manner Ensure required notifications are provided to parents as outlined by licensing Facilitate Parent Group to receive parent feedback, engage parents in school activities and create a welcoming environment for families. Staff Support & Training Assist with onboarding and ongoing training of caregivers in accordance with Minimum Standards Ensure staff understand and follow all policies, procedures, and licensing requirements Provide ongoing supervision, feedback, and support to staff Reinforce accountability for maintaining a safe and compliant environment Regulatory Compliance & Administration Support the operation of the center in full compliance with Texas Minimum Standards for Child-Care Centers Assist Director in ensuring all children's records are complete, accurate, and current as required by licensing (enrollment information, emergency contacts, immunizations, health statements, and permissions) Assist in maintaining student records Ensure required postings, documentation, and reports are current and accessible 2. Supervision & Ratios Assist Center Director to: Ensure appropriate caregiver-to-child ratios and group sizes are maintained at all times Monitor classrooms to ensure active supervision is consistently practiced Step into classrooms as needed to maintain compliance and continuity of care Ensure children are always supervised by assigned caregivers 3. Health & Safety Assist Center Director to: Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, including sanitation, handwashing, and safe sleep practices Monitor proper procedures for diapering and classroom cleaning Ensure incident/injury documentation and parent notification are completed according to Minimum Standards Support implementation of emergency preparedness plans and procedures Qualifications Meets or exceeds Texas Minimum Standards qualifications for an Assistant Director Three years' experience in a licensed child-care center in the role of Assistant Director Knowledge of Texas Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) Strong organizational and leadership skills Familiarity with ProCare (preferred) Key Competencies Knowledge of licensing regulations and compliance Demonstrated ability to communicate with parents Demonstrated ability to facilitate family engagement Strong attention to detail (especially in maintaining records) Ability to ensure accountability in staff performance Effective communication and leadership Commitment to child safety and quality care Additional Expectations Maintain strict confidentiality of all children and family information Model professionalism and appropriate behavior at all times Demonstrate reliability, flexibility, and leadership Serve as Director in their absence when designated Commitment to the relationship between

$42,000.00 - $48,500.00 per year
