GENERAL FUNCTIONS
Under the direction and supervision of the Program Director, the preschool teacher is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing all classroom activities. The preschool teacher will have specific assignments that provide for the children's social, physical, spiritual, and mental growth and will also work in any support role necessary for the operation of the child care program.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Minimum one year of experience working in a licensed child care facility. Knowledge of Child Development 21 years of age. Criminal Background/FBI Check clearance.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work with and instruct children 2-4 years in a calm and nurturing manner, maintaining an orderly classroom. Ability to maintain positive relationships with parents, coworkers, volunteers, and children. Ability to oversee both small and large groups of children simultaneously. Ability to maintain a safe, clean, and pleasant environment. Ability to meet the socio-emotional, physical, and developmental needs of individual children. Ability to care for all children equally and lovingly, regardless of race, gender, religion, or physical or developmental lags. Ability to learn and meet licensing requirements regarding the center's policies and procedures. Ability to be professional and keep the classroom clear of unauthorized guests/people.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Physically able to bend, stoop, kneel, and lift a minimum of 40 pounds without strain. 2. Mentally alert to recognize and minimize potential hazards and accidents. 3. Physically and mentally able to respond to emergency situations and administer First Aid and CPR effectively. 4. Ability to make sound judgments and decisions even when distracted by noise and activities. 5. Ability to remain calm and handle irate, complaining, or demanding children and/or adults professionally.
JOB SEGMENTS
Developing and administering small group activities/lesson plans that include music, games, art, science, and stories. Being responsible for the safety of the children at all times, including understanding and being able to implement emergency procedures as necessary. Attending parent conferences or parent-child events as requested. Assisting the staff with other duties as required for the operation of the child care program. Being responsible for daily record keeping on parent reports as requested. Helping maintain the appearance of the room, playground, and storage areas clean and tidy (sanitizing the toys, cots, etc). Attending staff meetings and in-service training meetings (minimum 30 hours per year) Supporting the program and the goals of the YMCA. Assuming all other duties as requested. Work professionally with co-teachers assigned to your classroom Follow policies regarding dress code and appropriate conduct, also follow YMCA safety and smoke-free guidelines.
Pay:
$14.50 - $15.00 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 - 25.0 per week
