Job Description
We are looking for a competent, caring, and motivated Assistant Director to help with the organization and daily operations of Little Gems Montessori. The ideal candidate understands the important role early childhood education plays in a child's life and is committed to building trusting and caring relationships with children, families, teachers, and staff. We are looking for someone who is dependable, organized, eager to learn, and interested in growing with our school long-term. This position will begin at approximately 20 hours per week to allow time for proper training and onboarding. As the candidate becomes fully trained, comfortable with our procedures, and able to take on additional responsibilities, there may be an opportunity for increased hours. Responsibilities Answer telephone calls, assist families, and accurately record messages. Assist administration with preparing and distributing school communications, including newsletters, monthly calendars, programs, reminders, and holiday/event information. Assist with enrollment inquiries, tours, and communication with prospective and current families. Maintain accurate and up-to-date student and school records. Assist with maintaining childcare licensing compliance and required documentation. Help develop and coordinate staff schedules and classroom coverage. Support teachers and classrooms as needed, including stepping into classrooms when necessary. Maintain an organized, professional, and welcoming front office and lobby. Sort and distribute communications and important information in a timely manner. Assist the Director in ensuring staff members follow school policies, procedures, and licensing requirements. Respond to office-related requests or issues and communicate concerns to the Director. Order classroom and school materials as directed by administration. Maintain professional and trusting relationships with all Little Gems staff members. Perform receptionist and front-desk duties when needed. Assist with arrival, dismissal, and carpool. Be flexible and willing to assist with other school responsibilities as needed. Qualifications & Skills Minimum 1-2 years of experience working in a preschool, daycare, Montessori school, or similar childcare environment preferred. Experience in an administrative, office assistant, front-office, or leadership role is preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with children, parents, teachers, and staff. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Dependable, professional, positive, and able to take initiative. Ability to multitask and work effectively in a busy school environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer systems. Experience with childcare management platforms such as Brightwheel or Procare is a plus; training will be provided. Understanding of childcare licensing requirements is preferred. Must be willing to learn Little Gems Montessori policies, procedures and daily operations. Must genuinely enjoy working with children and supporting teachers and families.
