Job Description

Position Summary The Toddler Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, faith-filled, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 24-36 months. The teacher plans and implements engaging activities that promote each child's cognitive, social-emotional, language, physical, and spiritual development while maintaining compliance with Texas Child Care Licensing standards. The Toddler Teacher partners with families to support every child's growth and well-being in a loving Christian environment. The center serves children from infancy through school age and emphasizes developmentally appropriate learning and Christian values. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Classroom Management Create a warm, welcoming, and safe classroom environment. Supervise children at all times, ensuring their health and safety. Maintain required teacher-to-child ratios. Establish consistent daily routines that encourage independence and positive behavior. Use positive guidance and redirection techniques to manage behavior. Curriculum & Instruction Plan and implement age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with early childhood best practices.
Provide hands-on learning experiences through:
Language and literacy Music and movement Sensory exploration Art and creativity Fine and gross motor development Social-emotional learning Early math and science concepts Encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving through play. Foster independence in self-help skills including handwashing, toileting, feeding, and cleaning up. Child Development Observe and assess children's developmental progress. Document milestones and maintain accurate records. Adapt activities to meet individual learning needs. Support children in developing communication, self-regulation, and peer relationships. Family Communication Build positive relationships with families. Communicate daily regarding children's activities, meals, naps, toileting, and developmental progress. Participate in parent conferences and school events as needed. Maintain confidentiality regarding children and families. Health & Safety Follow all Texas Health and Human Services Child Care Licensing regulations. Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitized classroom. Follow proper procedures for diapering, toileting, food handling, and medication administration. Respond appropriately to emergencies and accidents. Complete required incident reports. Faith Formation Model Christian values through kindness, patience, compassion, and respect. Incorporate age-appropriate prayers, Bible stories, songs, and Catholic values into the daily routine. Support the mission and philosophy of St. Pius X Early Care and Education Center. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Child Development Associate (CDA), Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education, or equivalent experience preferred. Minimum one year of experience working with toddlers in a licensed childcare or preschool setting preferred. Knowledge of child development for children ages 2-3 years. Strong classroom management and communication skills. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and actively engage with young children throughout the day. Must meet all Texas licensing requirements for employment. CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to create engaging learning experiences. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Positive, patient, and nurturing demeanor. Ability to work collaboratively with administrators and fellow teachers. Professional communication with children, families, and staff. Commitment to continuous professional development. $10.00 - $14.00 per hour
