A Preschool or Childcare Teacher works with young children, usually ages 3 - 5, to help them learn the social, motor and language skills needed to be ready for kindergarten and elementary school. Organizes activities and uses play or games to help children learn; develops schedules and routines for children that include exercise and rest. Works in a school or in a childcare center or program.
Job Summary Responsible for implementation of service areas as outlined in the Head Start Program Performance Standards, follow county specific curriculum, and applicable program policies and procedures. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in early childhood, Preschool, Child Development and Family Studies, Early Childhood Special Education, or an Early Education Field from an accredited college/university. A minimum of one (1) year preschool teaching experience. A related early childhood credential may be considered if meets HS Waiver status and WVBE policy. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, drive an automobile, talk, and hear. The employee must be able to occasionally lift, carry, or assist children weighing up to 50 pounds. Licenses/Training/Certifications An agreement must be signed to obtain a Temporary or Permanent Authorization. Job Requirements and Responsibilities Work hours as assigned by the Children Services Supervisor; occasional evening/weekend hours and overnight travel as required. Valid driver's license; vehicle with adequate insurance coverage for on-the-job use; safe driving record; State and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal History Check; Sex Offender Registry Check; Protective Services Record Check; initial Health Assessment and required updates; TB Risk Assessment or TB screening by Mantoux method; CPR/FA Card; food handler's card. Practice the Early Learning Framework Content Standards and Learning Criteria for WV Pre-K. Coordinate the activities of Assistant Teacher, Floater, Teacher Assistants, and/or Volunteers. General skills necessary to perform your job functions: mathematics, spelling, grammar, organizational, communication skills, record keeping, and computer skills. Project a positive image of the Head Start/Early Head Start Program; function well within varying socio-economic groups; establishes a good rapport with clients and all staff; is flexible in adjusting plans to changes and emergencies; keep supervisor and appropriate staff informed of workload and developments; submit reports as required; attend, facilitate, and participate in meetings, trainings, and conferences relating to job function; maintain professional and ethical behavior at all times; adhere to all safety, conduct rules/regulations, policies, local, state, and federal mandates; complies with all HS Performance Standards and Head Start Act; adhere to NCWVCAA Employee Guidelines; demonstrate the ability to cooperate, work and communicate with co-workers, supervisors, subordinates, and/or outside contacts. Establish and maintain close communication with parents. Attend and participate in staffing and/or IEPs, etc. for enrollees and complete necessary follow-up. Management/supervision of classroom, playground, and equipment to include maintaining safe, sanitary, and appropriate learning environments for preschool children and their parents. Implement the state approved, adopted county curriculum. Ensure completion of all required emergency drills.
