EXPECTATIONS AND NATURE OF THE POSITION
The individual selected for this position will be responsible for assisting a teacher in the general supervision and management of a group of 8-35 children between the ages of two and five. The individual may also be asked to take responsibility for the general supervision and management of a group of children in the absence of a teacher. The individual will be responsible for the safety of children and will maintain confidentiality regarding children and families enrolled in the Children's Center. Day and time will vary, approximately 20 hours per week and no more than 80 hours per month. The College expects this individual to accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective and competent manner and to strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. In addition, this individual must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with College personnel and the public. This individual will follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHICH THIS EMPLOYEE IS ACCOUNTABLE 1.
Assist in planning and implementing large and small group activities under the direction of a teacher. 2. Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up learning centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies. 3. Ensure children are supervised by an authorized adult at all times. 4. Ensure the classroom, gym, and playground are clean, inviting, stimulating and safe for the children and parents. 5. Provide the children with a positive routine and simple rules that are understood and accepted by all. 6. Supervise children to monitor and ensure safety and actively engage children in indoor/ outdoor play. 7. Promote social and cognitive growth by providing guidance while allowing children to initiate and sustain play experiences independently with peers. 8. Exercise sound judgment in interactions with students, including the ability to deny requests or redirect behavior in a manner that promotes respect and responsibility. 9. Monitor the environment and the activities of the children to ensure that they are safe and developmentally appropriate. 10. Foster positive and constructive relationships with children, their families, and staff. 11. Confer regularly with teacher regarding behavioral or learning problems and support the implementation of plans that are developed. 12. Treats all children with dignity and respect. Uses a warm, caring tone of voice, good body language and facial expression at all times. 13. Maintain current CPR certification, TB test, physical, and Blood Borne Pathogens training, and professional development trainings. 14. Maintain confidentiality of all persons involved in the program in accordance with Children's Center and Western policy. 15. Prepare snacks, following state regulations for food preparation. 16. Help children maintain proper hygiene, by keeping them clean, regular diaper changing, etc. 17. Employees will eat lunch with the children. 18. Regular professional development training. 19. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(Knowledge, Abilities, Education and Experience) 1. High School graduate 2. One year experience with and passion for working with young children 3. Ability to pass criminal background check with child abuse screening.

Additional requirements include:
hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity, ability to multi-task and be constantly alert to children's activities and well-being. Finally, the ability to distinguish letters or symbols, and the ability to use computer terminals, telephone, and copiers.
