POSITION
Literacy Coach This position is for a Literacy Coach at Pocomoke Middle School who will support the development of literacy instruction and student achievement through coaching teachers, leading intervention programs, and providing targeted literacy instruction for students demonstrating reading deficits below grade level.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE
Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive literacy program designed to improve student achievement in reading and writing Provide instructional coaching and support to teachers through modeling lessons, co-teaching, observing instruction, and facilitating professional learning opportunities Collaborate with teachers to analyze student data and develop instructional plans that address identified literacy needs Plan and provide targeted literacy intervention instruction for students requiring additional support in reading and writing Support the implementation of evidence-based literacy practices aligned with the Science of Reading and Worcester County curriculum expectations Assist teachers in developing and implementing differentiated instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners Utilize assessment data to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions Integrate educational technology into literacy instruction to enhance student engagement and achievement Develop and facilitate professional development related to literacy instruction, intervention, assessment, and best practices Assist in developing and implementing family engagement opportunities that support literacy development at home Foster positive relationships with students, families, teachers, and community stakeholders through proactive communication Collaborate with administrators, school counselors, special educators, interventionists, and classroom teachers to support student success Articulate student performance and instructional recommendations to administrators, teachers, school counselors, and parents Remain current on literacy research, instructional best practices, and state literacy initiatives Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Must hold or be eligible for Maryland Educator Certification in Elementary Education, Reading, Literacy, or a related field. Reading Specialist certification preferred Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience preferred Demonstrate knowledge of the Maryland College and Career Ready ELA Standards and literacy expectations at the elementary and middle school levels Demonstrate knowledge of current literacy research, the Science of Reading, structured literacy practices, and evidence-based intervention strategies Demonstrate strong instructional coaching, collaboration, and leadership skills Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills with children and adults Evidence of a work history demonstrating success in improving literacy outcomes for students, including at-risk learners
DUTY YEAR AND SALARY
This is an appointed 188-day benefitted position. Salary based on the appropriate teacher salary scale.
