KCS is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) multi-service organization founded in 1973 and supported by government agencies, foundations, corporations, and individuals. Through programs in social services, education, culture, public health, and workforce development, KCS serves the Korean and greater community across New York and New Jersey.ABOUT THE POSITION
The NJ Education Department is seeking a dedicated and engaging part-time Elementary ELA Instructor to teach elementary students (Kindergarten- 5th Grade) during an 8-week summer camp in Tenafly, NJ (June 29, 2026
- August 21, 2026).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement age-appropriate literacy lessons that focus on reading comprehension, phonics, vocabulary, writing skills, and storytelling. Incorporate creative writing and storytelling into some of the lessons. Utilize engaging activities, games, and discussions to promote critical thinking and creativity. Provide individualized support to help students improve reading fluency and writing structure. Encourage a love for reading and storytelling through interactive read-alouds and writing exercises. Maintain a safe, structured, and engaging classroom environment, ensuring proper handling of materials. Assess student progress and adapt lesson plans to accommodate different learning styles. Guide students in creating a final written project or presentation at the end of the program (if applicable). Foster a supportive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment. Create lesson plans that accommodate students who are in different grade levels in one classroom. Set up and organize necessary materials and equipment before class, ensuring all supplies are ready. Ensure proper classroom setup and cleanup before and after each session. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator.QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in English, Elementary Education, or a related field required. Teaching license required. Master's degree preferred.Experience:
Minimum one year of classroom experience in ELA elementary education.Instructional Skills:
Ability to develop fun and engaging reading and writing activities tailored to young learners.Classroom Management:
Ability to maintain an engaging, structured, and inclusive classroom environment of up to 20 students without an aide.Technology Integration:
Familiarity with digital literacy tools and educational platforms is a plus.Language Ability:
Must be able to speak, read, write English fluently.Availability & Commitment:
Must be able to commute to Tenafly, NJ and commit to the entire duration of the 8-week summer camp.DISCLAIMER
