By cultivating hope and restoring confidence, we help students dramatically improve their literacy skills regardless of socio-economic background or learning differences. We offer best-in-class, evidence-based intervention to students in small group settings using structured literacy programs aligned with dyslexia best practices, including the Wilson Reading System®, SPELL-Links™, Writing Our World®, and Chris Woodin® and other. The Opportunity Redwood Literacy is expanding to East Nashville and is looking for a dynamic, passionate Intervention Specialist to join our team. This is an in-person, contractor-based role delivering small group and 1-1 literacy intervention to students with diverse learning needs, including dyslexia and other learning differences. We're looking for someone who: Is genuinely excited to work with kids who learn differently Thrives in small group instruction settings Has afternoon and after-school availability (Monday-Thursday) Brings energy, warmth, and a growth mindset to every session A background in special education is a plus, but not required. What matters most is that you have a relevant background in education and a deep commitment to helping students build confidence and literacy skills. Pay:
Hourly (see Compensation section below) Session Structure Small group sessions (3-5 students), grouped by age and academic need Sessions run Monday-Thursday , afternoons and after-school hours Session windows: 4:15-5:30 PM CST or 5:30-6:45 PM CST Small group sessions are 75 minutes Individual sessions available on a case-by-case basis and are usually 60 minutes Instructors deliver targeted intervention using evidence based curriculum with fidelity Caseload New instructors will work with the Site Manager and Director Team to build toward a full caseload of around 10-20 hours/week with 10-20 students. Caseload growth depends on instructor readiness and enrollment at any given time. There is no guarantee of a specific number of hours or students on a fixed timeline. We ask that you communicate your desired caseload and availability, and we'll work together to get you there. Additional Responsibilities Record attendance, student engagement, and progress monitoring data after each session in Pearl (our Tutor Management System) Greet students, maintain an organized instructional space, and care for teaching materials Complete all pre-boarding and role-specific workflows in Trainual (Redwood's onboarding system) Respond to weekly team communications via Gmail and Slack within 24 hours, Monday-Friday Pursue ongoing professional growth as an educator and reading interventionist Schedule Sessions run year-round pending student enrollment Days off follow the Redwood Literacy Calendar No sessions on major Federal Holidays (unpaid) Shortened week for Thanksgiving (unpaid) Two-week Winter Holiday Break (unpaid) Compensation Instructors are paid hourly for all student-facing teaching hours, which includes preparation, implementation, and progress monitoring documentation.
Non-Certified Teachers:
$30/hour $35 after certification in dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia
Certified Teachers:
$40/hour $45 after certification in dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia
Special Education Teachers:
$48/hour $52 after certification in dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia •Candidates licensed in Tennessee will be required to submit proof of licensure. Your resume must clearly reflect your level of education and credentials to be considered for the applicable hourly rate.
Substitutes:
If you are unable to attend a scheduled session and request a substitute, you will not be compensated for that session. Your substitute receives the allocated payment for covering your session. What We're Looking For A background in education or a relevant field (special education experience is a plus, not a requirement) Experience with or exposure to structured literacy programs (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson®, SPELL-Links™, etc.) is helpful but not required, we train and certify our team Strong small group instruction and behavior management skills Cross-cultural competency and a student-centered mindset Familiarity with Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Sheets Afternoon and after-school availability, Monday-Thursday Deep alignment with the mission of Redwood Literacy How to Apply We're so glad you're interested! Curriculum Review — Your recorded lesson will be evaluated by our team of curriculum specialists using a standardized rubric. Group Interview — Candidates who pass the curriculum review will be invited to a group interview with our hiring team. Offer — Successful candidates will receive a job offer and contractor agreement. We're actively hiring for the 2026-2027 school year . Start dates are flexible, but we're looking to have our Nashville team in place before the school year begins.
