Job Description

Facilitates the implementation of literacy instruction in middle school classrooms. Serves as an ELA instructional coach for teachers. Provides ongoing job-embedded professional development, models effective instructional strategies, and leads discussions in research-based best practices in reading language arts. Provides expertise and leadership in the implementation of the MNPS Literacy Curriculum Framework. Job Duty/Resp. 1: Supports teachers and their work with students through PLC sessions focused on 4 main components: doing reading and writing to deepen content knowledge, analyzing student work to look for evidence of student thinking, rehearsing high leverage teaching practices, and analyzing classroom video to improve pedagogical practice. Job Duty/Resp. 2: Engages in one-on-one coaching cycles with literacy teachers that consist of pre-conferences, observations, and post-conferences. Job Duty/Resp. 3: Provides professional development for teachers in research-based best practices, the MNPS Literacy Curriculum Framework, and information shared at the Literacy Curriculum and Instruction Update meetings. Job Duty/Resp. 4: Serves as a mentor for teachers by assisting with planning lessons and units of study. Job Duty/Resp. 5: Regularly attends Literacy Coach Content Days and Reading CIUM sessions. Job Duty/Resp. 6: Analyzes student data, along with the administrative team, in order to set school-wide pedagogical goals and an on-going plan to support reading and writing instruction.
