The University of Southern Mississippi is accepting applications for the 2026-27 academic year, for a nine-month, full-time visiting instructor position within the School of Kinesiology & Nutrition, College of Education and Human Sciences to begin fall 2026. This position requires teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses and mentoring students. The ideal candidate would be qualified to teach courses that support at least one of the school's programs: Nutrition and Dietetics, Exercise Science, Sport Coaching, Fitness and Nutrition, and/or K-12 Physical Education. Primary Duties and Responsibilities A visiting instructor appointment involves: Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate coursework;
Maintaining regular and responsive communication with faculty, staff and students;
Mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students;
Engaging with program coordinators and faculty to maintain quality teaching and assessment standards;
Performing other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a field that would support teaching in one of the School's programs (Nutrition and Dietetics, Exercise Science, Sport Coaching, Fitness and Nutrition, or K-12 Physical Education Licensure). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds, programs, and colleges.
Field experience in one of the school's program areas.
Skill sets associated with use and application of common Kinesiology and Nutrition field equipment and tools. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, University policies and procedures. Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. from an accredited college or university in a field that would support graduate teaching in one of the School's programs (Nutrition and Dietetics, Exercise Science, K-12 Physical Education Licensure, Sport Coaching, Fitness and Nutrition).
