We are seeking a dynamic and visionary educator with expertise in one or more wellness areas including fitness, community health and wellness, health promotion and advocacy, nutritional sciences, public health and human anatomy and physiology. The ideal candidate should be committed to excellence in teaching, service, and ongoing professional development. The successful candidate will collaborate across the NYP Iona School of Nursing & Health Sciences and the broader University, maintain an active presence within the University community, mentor students, contribute to curriculum development, and enhance the school's and program's visibility through impactful engagement. Primary teaching responsibilities can include courses in community wellness intervention and practicum, health promotion and advocacy, fitness programming, nutrition, public health, and anatomy and physiology laboratory. We welcome candidates who are passionate about fostering an inclusive, innovative, and student-centered learning environment, and who are eager to prepare the next generation of health and wellness professionals. Primary Responsibilities include : Creating a student-centered learning environment that integrates in-person instruction Utilizing innovative and evidence-based teaching strategies, including active learning, case-based instruction, problem-solving approaches, and experiential learning activities. Demonstrating strong classroom management skills, fostering a supportive, inclusive, and interactive learning environment. Assessing and adapting teaching methods to meet diverse learning styles and needs Developing and revising curricula to align with evidence-based best practices for courses in health science, nutrition, public health and related disciplines in health and wellness Designing engaging, hands-on, and service-learning experiences that prepare students for careers as allied health professionals. Contributing to continuous quality improvement initiatives at the program, school, and institutional levels. Utilizing learning assessment data to enhance teaching effectiveness and curriculum development. Actively participating in student recruitment, retention, and admissions efforts, while mentoring students in career and professional development. Maintain a consistent on-campus presence and hold weekly office hours, remaining accessible to assist, advise, and mentor students. Serving on committees, task forces, and workgroups within the School and University. Demonstrating professionalism, ethical behavior, and a commitment to shared governance. Supporting and participating in the University's system of shared governance. Promoting the mission of Iona University, fostering a culture of respect and collaboration with students, faculty, staff, and the wider community
Required Educational Qualifications:
PhD, EdD, or clinical doctorate in Health Sciences, Nutrition, Public Health or related discipline
Required Skills and Experience :
Teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level Ability to engage and motivate students through interactive and applied learning methods. Strong organizational and time management skills, balancing teaching, mentoring, and service responsibilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with students, faculty, and external stakeholders. Available to maintain a regular presence on campus to hold office hours, attend meetings and university events Ability to build rapport with students, faculty, and staff; willingness to collaborate effectively in a diverse academic environment
Preferred Skills and Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of full-time faculty experience instructing undergraduate/graduate students Technological proficiency, including experience with learning management systems, virtual teaching tools, and digital assessments. Curriculum development in health sciences or related disciplines Credentialled as Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)
CPR/AED/FIRST AID
Instructor Certified - Red Cross NASM - Certified Nutrition Specialist and/or similar credentials
